If you haven't listened to the "Hamilton" cast recording yet, go do it now. You'll thank me later. Lin-Manuel Miranda took six years to write his masterpiece, it'll take you two and a half hours to become addicted. The lyrics are impossible to get out of your head, but these are the ones that I've related to most as a college student.

1. Awesome. Wow.

Walking around campus that first week, it feels like you're in a TV show. Everything is so... college looking.

2. What are the odds the gods would put us all in one spot?

When you find your squad during orientation, and you never let go.

3. Pick up a pen start writing

Being a journalism student is a bit like being Alexander Hamilton. You're constantly writing like you're running out of time.

4. We don't need money

Being a poor college student is a right of passage. You don't know life if you haven't searched for coupons to justify your late night pizza purchase.

5. Jesus Christ this will be fun!

Realizing those girls you met that first week are going to be your forever friends. To my Schuyler Sisters!

6. There you are an ocean away. Do you have to live an ocean away?

When you feel like Angelica because your best friends took off to Europe to study abroad.

7. I think your pants look hot

When your friend walks out into the hall in white pants and a green and pink hoodie looking like a watermelon. There's really only one way to react. Looking good, girl!

8. I'm erasing myself from the narrative

That awkward moment when your friends are fighting and you just want to slowly back out of the room. Except it's your room and you can't go anywhere.

9. You have invented a new kind of stupid

When you and your friends just really screw things up. It happens to the best of us.

11. Well, I'm going back to sleep

Every. Single. Day.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
