In our daily lives, we all experience awkward moments. They usually result from a weird chain of events that lead to spur-of-the-moment decisions and involve unnecessarily prolonged interaction. While the moment usually remains painfully engraved in your memory for the next 30 seconds, the good news is that these moments are only moments and they don't last forever. Life moves on past these difficult moments when your inner thoughts and weirdness are exposed.
That Awkward Moment When:
You try to avoid interaction with someone who you know when you walk by them and they spot you at the last second, forcing you to uncomfortably say something to them.
I don't know about you guys, but this happens to me every day. I like to try and avoid interaction in the mornings when I am low on energy and it never works. Just know that I don't hate you. It's just that I'm trying to avoid people in general when I am this energy-deprived.
That Awkward Moment When:
You accidentally swear in front of a formal adult.
This is bad. They automatically seem to think less of you once you do this and the only thing on your mind is running away.
That Awkward Moment When:
You accidentally say one of your weird thoughts out loud.
"WTF?" says anyone who heard what you said.
That Awkward Moment When:
You rip a loud fart around a lot of people in a formal setting.
This lasts for more than a moment, especially if there is a lingering smell to it.
That Awkward Moment When:
You spot your crush and subsequently run into a pole.
Why did that pole have to be there? Why did my crush have to appear when I was four feet away (maybe more depending on how much I was daydreaming) from the pole!
That Awkward Moment When:
You're talking mad smack about someone and they end up hearing what you said.
We are talking behind their backs for a reason. We are too nice to tell them this to their face, right? OK, maybe we're just a little hypocritical and deserve this.
That Awkward Moment When:
You're watching a movie with your parents and a sex scene comes on.
This is the worst! The best possible scenario is that your whole family is distracted and not really paying attention to the movie while this scene is ongoing.
That Awkward Moment When:
You think that someone doesn't recognize you, so you do your best to avoid interaction as they pass by, but they do recognize you so you look weird.
It really sucks because you immediately realize why they remember you and that you should have just had the nerve to confidently say hello to them.
That Awkward Moment When:
You have to deal with seeing someone who you know from far away in an open area, but you don't want to get into a long conversation with them.
I think that this illustrates my point.
That Awkward Moment When:
You're taking the walk of shame.
College kids know what I'm talking about.
That Awkward Moment When:
Everybody in the room can hear the music from your headphones and you're listening to the Jonas Brothers.
OK, maybe it's not the Jonas Brothers, but usually in this scenario you happen to be listening to an artist who is your guilty pleasure and you don't want others to find out that you like this artist.
That Awkward Moment When:
You get stuck trying to ease the tension between two people and don't know how to.
You're usually in a bright mood coming into this situation and it's hard to know how to deal with the crazy tension that's going on. Usually, you just end up trying to leave the situation prematurely, but it normally doesn't work out. In those painful few minutes, you have to go through as much discomfort by being with the other people as they do by being with themselves.
That Awkward Moment When:
You don't realize that you're not on good terms with someone when you make an effort to interact with them.
You only realize this after they throw you major shade or are very unenthusiastic when they see you. It just makes for a painfully awkward moment for yourself. Or maybe they were the ones who were making it awkward all along because they were low on energy and still quite possibly like you! Or maybe we should stop with the overthinking!
That Awkward Moment When:
Don't even need to break this down. The video speaks for how awkward it is in itself.
That Feel-Good Moment When:
You realize that everybody else has experienced these awkward moments like you.
That's right! You are not alone in your awkwardness. Everybody experiences most, if not all of these moments at some point in their lives. So, just embrace the awkwardness and think of it as endearing and not negative! The only thing worse than awkwardness is negativity.
