A Letter To My Family

Because I don't know where I'd be without you.

A Letter To My Family
Hayley Miller

Over the past year of my life, many things have changed. I've moved away from the town where I've lived since I was eight years old, I've moved into my very first apartment, and I've completed my first full year of college. The things that I have experienced and learned over the past twelve months have helped shape me into the person that I hope I can be proud of for the rest of my life. But, none of this would have been possible without the constant support and unconditional love from my family. That's why I've decided to dedicate my first article to them. Dad, Mom, and Brother; this is for you guys.

Dear Little Millers,

You will never know how much you mean to me. You are my rock. I don't think I fully understood how much you guys did for me before I moved to Louisville, and I want to let you guys know how much I appreciate everything that you've given me. Every family vacation, forced family fun night, or even hour-long lectures that we endured when I did something that I really shouldn't have. Let me start by thanking you, Dad...

Wow, I have been a huge pain, haven't I? First, let me just say that I am sorry. I'm sorry for putting you through so much stress and drama for the past nineteen years. But through all of that, you are still one of the strongest and most inspiring people in my life. You never give up. You have been handed some tough situations in life, and you never let them take you down. You take the bull by the horns and turn a terrible event into a lesson learned. You take such good care of Mom, Casey, and I. You make sure that we have everything that we need and that it's a great life to live. If we didn't have you, I wouldn't have been to forty-four out of fifty states. I wouldn't have been to multiple different countries. I wouldn't have the experiences and life lessons that have molded me into the person I am. You are my inspiration and strength. I love you times infinity.

Mom, I don't know where to start. From singing One Direction in the car, to listening to me drone on about nothing on the phone for what probably seems like hours. You have become my best friend. Yes, I know that you hate it when I say that because you're my mom first, but it's the truth. You are the glue that holds all of us together. You make sure that everyone is taken care of before you even think of yourself, and I hope that I can be that way in the future. You have taught me so much, and I'm not just talking about being my teacher throughout middle and high school. You are a constant flow of knowledge and life skills. You have taught me that I shouldn't care what others say about me because they aren't the ones who determine my worth. You have taught me how to do laundry, cook, and clean for myself. You have shown me unconditional love and what a relationship with Christ is supposed to look like. I love you with my whole heart. I don't think God could've done better when He gave me you as a mom. I don't know where I would be without you.

Are we already to you little brother? Let me just start off by saying that you are the most annoying little brat that I know... But besides that... You are the best brother that anyone could ever ask for. Believe it or not, you have taught me so many things. You have shown me that following the rules will send you down a far better path than straying ever could, and taught me that logic and reasoning are just as useful as emotion when it comes to making decisions. I don't think I can remember a time at home where I was crying, and you didn't come and bring me a tissue. Even though you don't always show it, you are one of the most caring people I know. You don't show it in larger than life hugs, or statements of "I love you Hayley", but it's with the little things. Like coming out to the store with me, going out into town to catch Pokémon, or even hiding fake bugs in my room. I don't know what I would do without your annoying little butt in my life. I love you, little brother. Always have and always will.

This doesn't even begin to tell you guys how much you mean to me, but I think that it's a good place to start. I hope you guys know that I wouldn't ever trade you for anyone else. I don't know how I could've survived this long without you. I love all of you more than I could ever say. I hope that this helped you see it a little clearer.

Thank you for everything you've done for me.

Love, Hayley

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
