Family, turkey, Black Friday, relaxation - these are the things that commonly anticipated as the Thanksgiving Break comes closer. This is the time when, often for one of the first times in the semester, you can take a few days to catch up on sleep and see friends again.

To make sure you maximize your time over Thanksgiving Break, make sure these are some top things on your bucket list!

1. Genuinely Spend Time with Your Family

Although it is easy to be bothered by the constant questioning from overly inquisitive aunts, uncles, and grandparents, take a moment to appreciate being close to them. This is a time to escape the stresses of college life for familial love.

2. Reconnecting with Friends

Whether you are catching up with a quick bite to eat or being updated on all of the current gossip of your hometown, take time to meet with your friends.

3. Watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade or Football

One of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions is snuggling up with my family to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City followed by a riveting football game. These coupled together can get anyone in the holiday spirit.

4. Go to your Favorite Food Joints

If you are anything like me, you probably miss that small, hometown restaurant. Currently, my list is about five restaurants long, but we will see if I can fit in all of them around Thanksgiving!

5. If Shopping is Your Jam, Go Black Friday Shopping

Have you been eyeing that new iPad for a while? Or maybe you really want to take advantage of those stellar sales at American Eagle or Pink. Either way, searching those deals online or in person is exciting at this time of year!

6. Start BLASTING Christmas Music

Yes, it is finally socially acceptable for you now to play your favorite Christmas tunes (even if you have been listening to them for the past month or so… oops!).

7. Binge Your Favorite Television Show

Have you been too busy doing ~college things~ to watch Stranger Things or Riverdale? Believe me, many college students have been subjected to this same unfortunate condition. While you are in the post-Thanksgiving food coma, unwind with catching up on your favorite shows.

8. Enjoy the Abundance of FOOD

This home cooked meal will be at least ten times better than the dining hall food you have become used to. Guaranteed.

Now that you will be relaxed, return back better than ever for the last few weeks of school!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
