Most people I have talked to about past relationships seem to have a lot of regrets.
“I wish I never met him,” “I wish we never got back together,” “Why did I ever even like him?”
You get the jist.
I think in that moment of heartache, we all feel a little regret. We all look back and wish things played out differently. We wish we said or did something in a certain moment. We wonder if we just walked away from someone really good in our lives.
However, I don’t think we should regret a single second of it.
Every single relationship in my past has indirectly and even directly led me to a person I couldn’t imagine living my life without. My past relationships have in small ways pieced together my road map to you. They have showed me why it all had to end, whether good or bad, to lead me to you. They have taught me that sometimes what we want in a moment, isn’t always what we need in a forever sense. They have defined how to, and how not to, handle my immense passion for everything & anything. In a sense, they have helped me grow up. They allowed me to get closer to who I am as a person, and see what I truly believe to my core.
They made me recognize what I can accept in a relationship, and what I can not. They have given me strength to say goodbye in the hopes I'd someday find you.
They prepared me for you in a way it seems. In such a weird way filled with joy, heartache, & confusion, you walked into my life. You made me not regret any of it. You made me see our plan. You made me realize that being a human means making mistakes, it means having vulnerabilities, and loving me all the same for it. You taught me the true meaning of unconditional, and what is really means to never waiver when things get hard. You have shown me support and guidance, strength and kindness.
And even though we can never see it at the end of a bad break up, just know that it someday will lead you right to this. This total security within your heart and mind.
So I want to give a big thank you to my past. You brought me right to my present.
