Thank You Mom And Dad

Here's to you, I don't know where I'd be without you.

Thank You Mom And Dad
Georgia Lynn Bridgers

As the holiday season is rounding third and heading home, I can't help but think of how blessed I am. The number one set of people I need to thank are simply my mother and father. But not merely just a thank you for the holiday, a thank you for a lifetime.

Thank you Mom and Dad. No, really, thank you. I don't say it enough, but you deserve to hear it all through out the day. Thank you for the amazing Christmas yesterday. Thank you for putting me through amazing schools all my life. Thank you for having a roof over my head and socks on my feet. Thank you for providing me with food everyday. Thank you for supporting me in all my crazy ideas/adventures. Thank you for taking Hope and me on amazing vacations. Thank you for teaching me how to be my best self. Thank you for keeping me grounded and teaching me right from wrong. Thank you for getting myself in check when I tend to go on my rampages. Thank you for letting me explore life with you keeping a longer leash. Thank you for deciding to have a second child, I don't know where or who I'd be without Hope. Thank you for having a civilized divorce and never once making Hope or me feel like we have to choose a parent. Thank you for living close to each other and paying for my car. Thank you for letting me choose to venture into design school and supporting me 100%. As cliche as it sounds, you two are the reason I am who I am. I wouldn't want to change a single thing about myself and I say that confidently because you taught me to love myself. I often times take you and every thing you do for me, for granted. Never being hungry and never worrying if the electricity would go off is how I lived and continue to live my everyday life. I have never felt unsafe at home. I never realized how much of a blessing this was until recently. Going off to college, meeting new people, and understanding their home life opened my eyes to how much I owe my parents. There are millions and millions of amazing things that have happened in my life to which I owe my parents. Big and small, the gratitude is still the same. I wish I could give you both everything in the world. It sounds cliche, but it is the truth. I genuinely wish I could give you back everything you've done for me. While my age and current income (babysitting) does not allow me to do that, I will spend my life being forever thankful.

There will never be a day where I have said thank you enough, but I most certainly will not stop. Thank you for everything, I love you both dearly, and simply, thank you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
