A Thank You Letter To My Best Friend
Colleen Thornton

By the time you reach college, you pretty much know who your best friends are. You have maybe three or four people from different places in your life that have earned this title; however, for most people there is one person who stands out above the rest. This is the person who somehow or another became your other half, the one you love to pieces and can't see the rest of your life without them. This is the best friend I'm talking about. Here's to the original bae. I'd be lost without you.

Thanks for being my friend through my awkward stage.

I don't know why I thought bangs and braces were a good idea but you loved me anyway. Braces, bangs, zits, bad fashion sense and all.

Thanks for being my friend when I had nobody else.

Middle school was rough and I really don't know what I would have done without you.

Thanks for always telling me what I need to hear rather than what I want to hear.

You're literally the only one who will yell at me when I'm having a bad day and complaining about everything. I'll always appreciate the loving way you tell me to shut up and get over it.

Thanks for helping me dress myself.

I've definitely gotten better since middle school, but sometimes matching is hard. Thanks for picking out my interview outfits and "I feel like being cute today" outfits. You make me look acceptable.

Thanks for supporting my bad decisions.

Every time I decide to spend every penny I own, you're supportive. Every time I eat half a box of cookies, you tell me I'm pretty. Every time I stay up too late watching Netflix, you tell me I deserved it. Every time I drink too much, you remind me that one can never have too much wine.

Thanks for feeding me.

You've always been a better cook than me and you always find a way to share your talent with your hungry friend.

Thanks for always having a toothbrush for me in middle school.

I might as well have moved into your house in eighth grade. Every time I came over, I forgot my toothbrush. You always had one for me anyway.

Thanks for always being my lesbian girlfriend at the bar.

Nobody has time for the loser who thinks it's OK to shove his crotch against my back. Thanks for rescuing me and yelling at them for touching your girlfriend.

Thanks for loving me when I don't love myself.

For a long time, you were the only one who loved me and that means more to me than you'll ever know.

Thanks for always sharing.

Your tapestry makes my room at school homey, those sweatpants you gave me when we were 16 still fit and I know every fry you let me steal is the biggest act of love you can offer.

Thanks for being an inspiration without even meaning to.

Your strength, loyalty, determination, and especially your honesty are things that I have always admired. I think about that whenever I need a little push.

Thanks for holding me together when I'm falling apart.

You're always there when my world comes crashing down. I can always count on you to come to the rescue with ice cream, a bottle of wine and advice that only a best friend can give

Thanks for continuing to be my best friend.

I know sometimes I suck, but even when we don't talk for weeks at a time I know that at the end of the day you'll always be the one I can turn to with every embarrassing, exciting, happy, sad, ridiculous, crazy and pointless story.

We've been through hell and back together. You've helped shape the person I am today and I don't know where I'd be without you.

Thank you for everything.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
