Finding my forever best friends was not easy and for the longest time, I didn't think I ever would, but when I found them, I automatically knew. As our friendship grew and developed to the point where we considered each other family, I found myself forgetting to say thank you for the little things. Best friends are our daily support systems, free therapists and number one fans. Because they are there whenever we need them to be, they deserve all the credit not just for the big things, but for the little ones as well. These little things have helped me in big ways and without them, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Because I, and I am sure many others haven't said it before or enough, thank you to all the best friends for:
1. Thank you for introducing me to things that you enjoy because you know I'll enjoy them too.
In a friendship, it is important to have things that you yourself like, as well as things that both you and your friends enjoy. Sometimes we hesitate to share things we really enjoy with our friends, because of the uncertainty of know whether they will like it or not, but the most important thing is to try. So thank you to my best friends who introduce me to an abundance of new things each day, whether it's new music, new T.V shows, or movies. Each new thing expands my horizons, which allows me to be more aware of not only the world around me, but also more about you. Sharing the things that you enjoy with me, only makes our friendship stronger.
2. Thank you for keeping the "I told you so's to yourself."
I am well aware that I mess up sometimes or make ridiculous mistakes, but the fact that you don't throw it back in my face, will always count for something. Event though I can tell you are saying "I told you so" just by the expression on your face, I will be forever thankful that you don't say it out loud. There is something about that saying that makes me feel absolutely awful, so thanks for knowing that too.
3. Thank you for never being afraid to tell me how it is.
You may not throw the "I told you so's" in my face, but you do tell me how it is. When I make a mistake or do something to upset you or others, you never ignore it. Not being afraid to correct me or talk to me about something I have done wrong, has made me more self-aware. Because I know that you will always be there to give me guidance when I need it, I am not afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes are meant to be learned from and because you are always there to help me through them, you are one of my biggest teachers.
4. Thank you for your encouraging words.
You always know what to say when I am down or need an extra push. Your well-planned and thoughtful words, never seem to amaze me, and I truly want to thank you for all of them. your encouraging words always inspire me to be the best version of myself possible, and when it happens, I have you to thank.
5. Thank you for always keeping me company.
Whether I am picking up an extra shift at work, or going to lunch after class, you are always willing to join me. Having you there makes the time go faster and being there that much easier. You always voluntarily being there has taught me a lot about loyalty and friendship. It's like they say, "Friends that stick together, stay together".
6. Thank you for valuing my alone time.
You know I truly cherish the time we spend together, but you also know and respect that sometimes we need time apart. When we are apart, you aren't constantly on my case about where I am or why I'm not with you.
7. Thank you for always letting me vent to you, even if it means you don't get a word in about how you are feeling.
You are always there to listen to me talk about my day and the struggles that existed within it, and more than half of the time, you never ask me to do the same for you. You selflessness and caring character, have only made me want do the same for you, even when you don't ask for it.
8. Thank you for your uncanny ability to tell when something is wrong.
I don't even have to say a word, somehow you just know and are always willing to jump in and help. You have taken the time to understand me, that you know when I am feeling down or upset and you always know the perfect way to help. Your ability to pay attention to such great detail has taught me that I should do the same, not just with our friendship, but in life as well.
9. Thank you for all the belly aches full of laughter.
You never stop making me laugh, especially when I need it most. Just as Charlie Chaplin said, "A day without laughter is a day wasted." More than 95 percent of the time our days are filled with laughter, which means a day spent with some of the people I care most about, never goes to waste.
10. And most importantly, thank you for being YOU.
If we weren't friends and I didn't have someone as caring, kind, amazing and cool as you in my life, I would truly be lost. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do.
