Why You Should Be Thankful All Year Long

Why You Should Be Thankful All Year Long
Whistler Wag

My social media feed is usually filled with complaints about the weather or rants about the last ridiculous thing Donald Trump said. But now that November is here and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, social media is flooded with “30 Days of Thankfulness” posts. Seeing these posts is a nice change from the usual rants all over social media, but why are we only thankful around Thanksgiving?

Yeah, it’s great to have a holiday that we use to focus on what we’re thankful for, but we should be thankful all year long. It’s so easy to find things that frustrate us and complain about them. But we should focus on what we do have rather than what we don’t, and this is why:

If you are reading this article right now, that means that you have an electronic device with internet access. You live in a first-world country that allows you to provide for yourself so that you can afford a device that puts the world at your fingertips. That is something to be thankful for..

There are people in the world who don’t know when their next meal is, who don’t know where they’re going to sleep tonight. If you have a roof over your head and food on your plate, you have a lot to be thankful for.

There are families who are grieving over a loved one that they wish they could hug one more time. So instead of fighting with your parents or friends, call them up and tell them you appreciate them. You have people that love and care about you, take advantage of that.

There are people in the world dealing with chronic illnesses, recovering from surgeries, or dealing with traumatic experiences. Be thankful for your health and your loved ones health.

There are men and women who are going to miss Thanksgiving with their families because they are deployed. Be thankful that you get to spend time with your loved ones this holiday season and be thankful for the troops fighting for your rights every day.

Sure, there’s always something to complain about, but there’s also always something to be grateful for. We should start focusing on things that are going good in our lives. Focusing on the bad is only tearing us down and making us unhappy.

My challenge to you is that next time you’re complaining, also think of one thing that’s good in your life. Get into this habit and eventually you will be a happier person once you start focusing on why your life is great. Post what you’re grateful for on social media all the time, not just in November. We can start a chain reaction and make the world a more positive place to be.

Life is too short to be anything but happy. So be thankful for all you have this Thanksgiving season; forgive, love, and give thanks -- all year around. You always have something to be thankful for.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
