A Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

Who knew we'd make it this far?

A Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend
Simya Dickson

This letter is well overdue because you have constantly supported me through thick and thin. I still can’t fathom having you in college with me, but I’m glad our long-distance friendship has survived.

Not going to lie, in the beginning, I definitely had my doubts about how long we were actually going to stay as close as we were. Imagine trying to start and grow within our lives, but holding on what genuinely was the old us. You’ve gotten me through so many things while I’ve been in college, and I thank you more than ever for that.

What separates us from every other best friend duo is that our friendship runs on hate. Our everlasting friendship started through the hatred of a class and then spiraled through your hatred for me.

Somehow, we surprisingly pulled through, and I’m beyond glad that we did. However, besides the hate that boils between us, lies memories and laughter that makes our relationship surreal.

Although the foundation of our friendship is mainly vine references and Twitter memes, somewhere way deep down lies the typical best friend relationship that everyone else has. The amount of support that we provide for each other through anything and everything withstands all the petty arguments that we’ve had. Thank you for letting me vent to you about boys and the stress that school inevitably brings.

No matter the distance, I know you’ll always be there for me. I don’t think I ever told you how thankful I was that you traveled 12 hours to visit me, and I can’t wait to do the same.

As you apply for your dream colleges and get in, KNOCK ON WOOD, I’ll be right by your side to support you every step of the way. As cliché as it might sound, you are family and I’m more than positive that you’ll be the maid of honor at my wedding and the godmother to my future children.

Friends can be Soulmates too, right? I’m glad that I get to take on life with you as my partner in crime.

We always see the good in each other that neither of us can see. It’s truly amazing how no matter the distance you’re my number one supporter. Trust me when I say that all of our aspirations will come true and we will thrive together.

Though you never Snapchat me back and take forever to reply to my texts, I know that you do it out of love. Even if we don’t talk for days on end, the moment we begin to catch up its almost as if we never stopped talking.

Thank you for all the hilarious unforgettable stories that we’ll tell at each other’s weddings. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our friendship.

You’re the pea to my pod, the sister I’ve never had, and one of the reasons why I constantly pursue my dreams.

No words can explain how grateful I am for you. Now stop reading this and Snapchat me back!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
