When we were little, we always wanted sisters, but as we grew up, we realized we wouldn't want anyone but our older brothers. They were our playmates growing up. They are our greatest source of advice now. They are our best friends.
1. Thanks for being a constant playmate even if we didn’t always get along.
You were always there to spend long, hot summer days running around outside or rainy days playing indoors.
2. Thanks for teaching me how to throw a baseball and how to shoot a basketball.
Thanks for making me a girl who liked sports. You opened so many doors for me.
3. Thanks for teaching me that sometimes, getting hurt is part of the game, and girls can be tough and shake it off too.
Thanks for making me one of those girls who doesn’t mind getting a little dirt on her hands and some scrapes on her knees.
4. Thanks for (sometimes) letting me win.
Thanks for making me tough when I lost. Life isn’t always about winning, and learning to lose is an important part of childhood. You taught me to take a loss as a push to try harder.
5. Thanks for being patient and helping me with homework.
Thanks for showing me the shortcuts you learned that I hadn’t yet been taught.
6. Thanks for going first and helping Mom and Dad learn the ropes before they got to me.
It was always scariest letting their first child try new things, but by the time they got to me, they were a little more relaxed. Thanks for taking the hit there.
7. Thanks for the oversized t-shirts that you don’t realize I’ve stolen from your closet.
Sorry, they’re comfy.
8. Thanks for being protective and letting me know you’re always watching out for me.
9. Thanks for always checking in and being there to talk.
Phone calls aren’t the same as talking and laughing in the dark as kids after we were supposed to be asleep, but it’s always nice to hear from you anyway.
10. Thanks for being a role model, for teaching me along the way, and for helping me through the confusing times of life.
11. Thanks for making me a part of your life.
As we grew up, we’ve spent less and less time together, but I know that you will always be there.
