A Thank You Letter To My Older Brother

Hey brother,

My life would not be the same without you. As a matter of fact, I would not be the same if I did not have you. You have played many parts in my life, and I appreciate everything you have done for me. I am glad that my older sibling is a guy and not a girl, because you can't take my clothes but I can take yours. I am proud to call you my brother for the amazing person you are. Thank you for not only being my brother, but for also playing the role of my father figure, my best friend and one of my main supporters. You were the dad I did not have growing up. You're the person who taught me so much in my life. You taught me how to swim, you prepared me for the boys that would break my heart as I grew older, you taught me to be a genuinely person that prefers to give rather than to receive: the list can go on and on of the things you've taught me. I will always be grateful for everything you have done for me. Thank you for playing all the silly games we played when we were little and for always having my back now that we are older. I probably would not be where I am right now if I did not have you always being on my butt about getting things done and if you did not always encourage me to do anything I set my mind to. You gave me the mentality of a man (which Im not complaining about; it comes in handy at times). I know I can always count on you when I need a good laugh, or when I am struggling to get my self together. Thank you for always making my days with your funny jokes, for always spoiling me, and for always making me feel better. Thanks for everything you do for mom and I. Remember I will always be here for you, just like you've always been there for me.

I love you!

--Your baby sister.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
