A Thank You To My Floormates

As the year comes to an end, here's everything I was never able to say.

A Thank You To My Floormates
Jeanne Pak

Thank you for making me laugh.

Sometimes I read our group chat and laugh at how ridiculous we are. I love everything from the random chain mail (which I still don't really get, but it's funny) to the ugly pictures we send of each other. Even on a normal day, I can walk into the common room and crack up making eye contact with you guys. We have countless inside jokes that only our floor will understand and cherish forever.

Thank you for stressing with me.

So much went on this year. From the insanely hard exams (especially at BU) to our future fears, it was comforting to have people to share the pain. (I never took Chem 101, but living on this floor made me feel like I did. Really, I felt for all of you on the floor that did and I'm so proud that you guys made it through!) As freshmen in college, it was just a difficult transition all-around for each of us. Any worries I have about friends, family or school, I know you guys were always willing to listen and complain with me.

Thank you for accepting me.

Let's be honest. You guys have seen me at my best, and definitely at my worst. No matter what the circumstances were or how embarrassed I was, I never felt that you guys judged me for anything. You guys were there to give me advice and tell me when I'm being dumb. From the start, I was able to act like my weird self around you. I've been so lucky to be surrounded by people who love me for my flaws. Thanks for having my back.

Thank you for the late nights.

Whether it was a Saturday when we all came back from a party at 3 a.m. or a Tuesday the day before an exam, there was always someone up to keep me company (think back to the amount of Dominoes we've ordered in the middle of the night). The middle of the night was when we had the deep talks and laughed hysterically because we were over-tired. These were the moments that brought us closer together.

Thank you for being my family.

I don't think you have any idea how comforting it was for me to have you guys around. We've had our ups and downs, but coming back to the floor after a long day was the best feeling. We fought and made up like a family does.

It's so strange to think that we come from such different places and backgrounds. Regardless, I could rely on you guys for everything, even the small things. Thank you bringing me medicine when I was sick, and grabbing my I.D. from my room so I could swipe in. We know each other's likes, dislikes and the random facts that no one else would know -- I don't think anyone who doesn't live on our floor will understand.

It sucks to think that we won't be together next year. I'm still so surprised at how we ended being so perfect. The best thing about us is that we were close enough to just walk into each other's rooms and hang out, but also give each other space when we needed it. Our experience together definitely isn't something to take for granted.

Love you fam!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
