Usually, when I tell people that I went to an all-girls high school, they look at me like I have three heads. Yeah, it might have been more of a circus/daycare type scene than a real school. And yes, I did only graduate in a class of a whopping 35 girls. BUT STILL. My high school experience was definitely one for the books, and I'm so grateful to have attended a school that made four years so darn memorable.
Thank you for letting me come to school everyday looking homeless.
I'm not even exaggerating. Literally. No boys, no one to impress. This especially came in handy during my awkward stage (aka all of high school).
Thank you for the daily shenanigans.
No matter the homework I slaved over the night before or if I got in a fight with my mom that morning, I knew that when I came to school, I would immediately be put in a great mood. Whether it was locking teachers out of classrooms, wearing our bras over our shirts, mid-class dance parties/flash mobs, or running around the school in morph suits, not a dull day went by.
Thank you for helping me perfect the art of gossiping.
Most people think of gossiping as a bad thing. At an all girls school, it's normal and even necessary to find out everyone's dirt. And I'm not even sorry to say that I've gotten very good at it.
Thank you for letting us hide around the classroom and pop out in the middle of class to scare our teacher.
Probably one of the highlights of my four years. Enough said.
Thank you for letting us nap anywhere (including in the hallways).
Okay, the hallway thing might have ended immediately once the administration realized we were doing this, and blankets were banned from school. But hey, it was fun while it lasted. And that did not stop us from sleeping in the senior lounge.
Thank you for the pep rallies that brought the whole school together.
The whole school...aka all 200 of us. Nonetheless, it still warms my heart thinking about each grade screaming at the top of their lungs to show their spirit.
Thank you for letting us dress up like complete lunatics during Catholic Schools Week.
Seniors dressed as grandmas and freshman dressed as babies: best week of the year, no doubt about it.
Thank you for teaching me how to be a friend.
This is one of the most important lessons that I learned. A special bond was formed with each other, with an obligation to always be there for one another, no matter what. I had everyone's back, and I knew everyone had mine.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be myself.
At school, I felt comfortable. I was able to be me, with no judgment from anyone else. I could say what I thought in class with no regards to whether or not a boy thought what I was saying was weird. #girlpower
Thank you for giving me my sisters.
When you spend so much time with such a small group of people, you're bound to become close. But lucky for me, I have found people who I know I will be friends with for the rest of my life, not just for the four years of high school. They aren't just my very best friends, but truly are my sisters.
Thank you for all of the laughs and memories to last a life time.
I could laugh until my stomach hurt and tears were rolling down my face thinking about everything that went down those four years. College is wonderful, of course, but absolutely nothing will replace the time I spent from ages 14 to 18. I grew up there, and was taught so many lessons that weren't just school related. All girls schools are special places, provided with memories you'll always cherish and friendships you'll always have.
