From falling off my bike to finals week freak outs, my mom has always been there to make the tears stop and help her panicking little girl smile again. She has always known what would be best for her children and even though we have doubted her, argued with her and ignored her, in the end we forget to acknowledge what she has done for us. Most importantly, I know I have forgotten to thank her for everything she has ever done for me. So here is my mushy, lovey-dovey, 18 years-too-late thank you letter to the best woman in my life.
If anyone is excited to hear what I have to say I know it will always be you. I always know when I am talking to my mom that I will always be heard. Our talks will either happen at 6:00 in the morning or 8:00 at night. No matter how tired you are from just waking up, coming home from work, or picking me up from somewhere you wish I got a ride home from, you always listen to what I have to say. You are the only person I know that when I talk to them will ask me how my day is going and you honestly listen. You will listen while you clean the kitchen, or are typing an email at work. No matter when or what time of day it is, I know I will always have my mom to help me. Not a single problem will ever be too big or too small for you to handle. It always seems like you have an answer for everything.
Looking at our relationship now, I look back at all the years before when I thought you were the most embarrassing mom in the world. I still have the time when you made a scene in the bowling alley burned into my brain. My cheeks still get a little red when I recall the time you picked me up early in sixth grade and said my childhood nickname out loud that everyone in the attendance room heard. I used to hate when my friends would come over and you would say “hey girls” or you would see my friends in public, screech their name and hug them. Now I love it. It took me too long to realize that you are not embarrassing and you are also probably the coolest mom I know. You are the only mom I have ever met that would sit down with any of my friends going through a tough time and talk to them because you’re so easy to talk to. I love when people tell me how they think you’re great, or how you are so funny. Every person who has ever met you, talks so highly about you and as your daughter I talk you up even more. I want everyone in the world to know that you are my mom.
If I could be anyone in this world, I would want to be you. You have such passion and thrive to conquer this world and make it a better place. I know my life is so much better because I have such an amazing mom in it. You have taught me so many life lessons in such a short amount of time that no amount of hugs, gifts or cards could ever thank you enough for what you have done for me. Mom, you would sleep in my twin size bed with me when I had a bad dream and stay there until you knew I was asleep even if that took all night and you had work in the morning. You would always make sure my night light had the brightest bulb so I could sleep peacefully knowing it scared the monsters away. You took me to swim classes and would spend countless summer days watching me splash around in the pool. You taught me how to ride a bike and more importantly how to stop the bike. You took me on walks when I was sad. You did my formal makeup when I was frustrated and couldn’t do it on my own. You’ve waited in the high school parking lots for hours waiting for my hell week rehearsals to get out. You sat through hour long concerts so hear me sing. You spent money on tutors, textbooks and college credits. You helped pick out three of the best dresses I ever wore. You showed me my college and made me the student I am today. You cheered the loudest at my high school graduation and cried the most when you dropped me off at my dorm room. These are only some of the things you have done for me. Nothing I will ever say or do will ever add up to the amount of time and effort you put into raising me.
I hope one day I can pay you back for everything you have ever done but for now I just want to say, thank you mom.
