A Letter to my Step Dad

To my step dad,

I know I don't say it enough, but thank you. Thank you for taking me to the store, going to my games, giving me rides, and supporting me. Thank you for making my mom happy again, and for taking care of my little sister. Thank you for lending me money when I needed it, and for supporting my dreams.

But most importantly, thank you for being a dad when I never asked you to. You already had kids of your own, so I am sure you didn't plan on taking care of any more, but you never hesitated to step in and be a second father to me.

You talked my mom into letting me date guys she didn't approve of, you picked me up from school, and you took me out to lunch. You took me to doctor appointments, last minute runs to the store, and helped me pick out the perfect gifts for mom. You drive the family out to visit me at college, and treat my sister and I like your own kids.

You've made my mommy the happiest I've seen her in my lifetime, and made me the luckiest girl in the world- because I am lucky enough to call you my dad.

Thank you for filling the role when I never asked you too, yet never trying to take my dad's place.

I love you.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
