When I was younger, I would always hear young girls say to their mother "I hate you. You're the worst mom ever," when they were not allowed to venture into the city with their group of 12 year old friends. I never understood how a daughter could have such a distant relationship with her mother that she would be able to say she hated her multiple times.
Luckily, my mom and I are, and have been, best friends for my entire life, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I have learned so many important lessons from developing such a strong relationship with my mom.
Thank you mom:
For being my support system. I could and still can count on my mom to be at all my dance recitals, musicals, or basketball games. No matter what it is or how busy her schedule is, she will make time to be there for me. When I was younger, she even changed her work schedule to part-time just to spend more time with me. That's a super mom, if you ask me.
For never judging me. I am so grateful to have the type of relationship with my mom where I can tell her everything and know that she will not judge me. There are no boundaries when it comes to something being too crazy to tell her. Now that I am older, this is even more special and important to me. We have also developed a relationship in which she can now tell me the crazy things she did when she was my age. I think we sometimes forget that our moms were our age once.
For always making me happy. Whether I'm upset about a bad grade or a breakup, my mom is always there to comfort me and make me smile. We always have those silly moments when we're dancing around and singing, and I wouldn't trade those moments for anything else in this world. I've learned that you are never too old to be silly with your mom.
For raising me the best possible way. I owe it to my mom for raising me to be the person I am today. She has taught me a lot of valuable lessons, but also allowed me to figure out some things on my own. I have learned the importance of having fun and finding the joy in life, but also working hard to achieve a greater goal. I have learned that family is everything and will always be there for you, no matter what.
There are so many more reasons to thank my mom, and I hope she knows how much of an impact she has had on me.
Love you to the moon and back, Mama,
Your grateful daughter.
