With formal recruitment right around the corner, I felt it was appropriate to write a thank you to my sorority. Coming into college I never thought about joining a sorority. I didn't think Greek life was for me, but freshman me decided last minute to sign up for formal recruitment. I thought "I've got nothing to lose. I'll find my home or its not meant to be." Looking back now, I am so happy that I rushed and found my home in Delta Zeta. I couldn't imagine college without my sorority. It honestly was the best decision of my life. DZ has given me more than I could ever ask for.
The first thing Delta Zeta did for me was make college more like home. I now feel as though I have a real home away from home. It made Ohio Wesleyan even better because I am now a part of this amazing organization that will be with me past my college years. Delta Zeta has given me a group of women that inspire me to be the best I can be. I admire the work and passion my sisters have toward everything they do. Surrounded by such people, I have grown into a better version of myself.
In Delta Zeta I was able to find my true self and be who I am. My sisters accept me for who I am and with acceptance and love I have been able to grow as a woman and find out more about myself. I found out that I had leadership skills I didn't know I had. With that I have held different positions in and outside of DZ. If I had not joined a sorority I most likely I wouldn't have thought I could be President of different organizations because I have gained so much confidence in myself. I have also found that I am more passionate than I thought. I know find myself wanting to help my chapter and other organizations as much as possible and in any way.
Lastly through Delta Zeta I have gained the best sisters I could ask for. The women in my sorority have become more than just my sorority sisters, they have become my friends. I know I could go to any of them with anything. The support system within Delta Zeta is truly amazing. I have found some of my best friends in college through Delta Zeta and I know I will remain close to my sisters and they will forever have an impact on me.
I could go on forever about the impact Delta Zeta has had on me because it means so much to me. My sorority has become a huge part of my life and I couldn't imagine if freshman me wouldn't have decided to go through formal recruitment. I love everything about it. So thank you Delta Zeta for giving me more than I could have ever asked for.
In the Light of the Flame,
Emily
