When I look into the mirror, I don’t see myself. I see my dad. Ask me 50 questions and I will probably give you the same answers my dad would. Ask me to do something, and I will either procrastinate or find an excuse that last me a while. As would my dad. Being yelled at is never a pleasant experience, hearing your mother say, “you’re just like your father,” does inspire in me a hint of pride.
My dad is the hardest working alien I know. I call him an alien because he is like no other, and because he may look like one at times. For as long as I can remember, my dad has been a hard worker, battling mother nature. No weather stops him, except maybe a hurricane. Not only is my dad a hard worker but he is a great man. His plans for me are to one day be a better man than he is. But my question to him is, “how can I achieve this impossible goal?” I reflect on all the love, care, and support he has shown throughout my life, and know that there is no way I can pay him back. My dad has been there for me every time I have needed him. He has taught me many things in life that truly will come in handy. Although I hate to admit it, my dad is right about most everything. I may have thought he was wrong about some things, and he has allowed me to learn the hard way when I have neglected to follow his advice.
As I continue my education in college, I understand that I have to work hard and show the same level of dedication that he would. At this point in my life, if I do not achieve my goals, or I am not happy, I know that I have let my dad down. He has set me up to succeed and achieve a lot in life. I really have to thank my dad. Thank him for being a good role model for me to look up to. I have to thank him for all he has done for me. I have to thank him for giving me the tools to be successful but also stepping back and entrusting me to use them. One day, I will make you proud. Thank you dad.
