A Thank You Letter To The Grandmas Around The World
Hannah Pirnie

If there is one person that stands out amongst the rest of our family members, it's our grandma. They are always loving and hardly ever tell us no. They are there to defend you when you’re in trouble with your parents. Unfortunately, we don’t take the time to thank our everyday superwoman as much as we should. This is why thanking grandmas around the world is the reasoning behind this letter.

It doesn’t matter who you are, if a grandma sees someone in need of a hot meal made with love, they are on the job. Every holiday, we tear through the piles of food, over stuffing our faces, and although we never say it out loud we typically like what you cooked the best. It's hard to describe why, you just get it right every time. So, for all the great meals that have been cooked by the grandmothers around the world, thank you.

One of the best qualities shared by all grandmothers is their wisdom. It’s not until we are older that we realize that our grandmothers serve as the foundation of our families, holding the knowledge of most family traditions. Our grandmothers are one of the only people in our families that have seen all the ups and downs of past generations. As a result, they often spread as much knowledge as they can think of to enlighten us with. Grandmothers serve as the ultimate family historian, and for this we thank you.

Something that will never get old is the amount in which our grandmothers care about us. In the eyes of a grandmother, their grandchildren can do no evil. Whenever we got in trouble with our parents, we were the victims of our parent’s strict rules. If you were ever down in the dumps, mad, or just not happy, grandma always had the remedy. From the day we were born, everything our grandmother has done was to make sure we stayed happy. To put it simply, grandmothers spoil us and we will always be thankful of that.

Our grandmothers are one of the most unique members of our family. They are without a doubt one of the wisest people we will get to meet while also being one of the most loving. Grandmothers are the only people we know that can cook better than even the most sophisticated restaurants. They saturate our lives with an endless amount of love and never give up on you, even if you are in the worst position imaginable. This is why we, their grandbabies, need to make a dedicated effort to go out of our way to show them the thanks they deserve on a daily basis. Getting the opportunity to meet your grandmother is not guaranteed, so why not make the most out of the time we have with our grandmother’s.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
