Dear Big,
Joining a sorority has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I didn’t know just after two months of being a new member, I would meet so many amazing women that I already have such strong bonds with. I didn’t know sorority life could get better, until big-little week came around. You showered me with presents that matched my personality perfectly. The gifts showed me how much you loved me and how your crafting abilities are stellar. A rustic mason jar filled with my favorite chocolates, my first initial painted in our colors and a stuffed cat were only few of the gifts you showered me with over the week. The week was full of emotions and questions about who you were.
Throughout this week, you avoided me, and you have no idea how heartbroken I was. I know now it was because you wouldn't be able to contain your excitement that I was your new little. After learning that messing with the new members and confusing them about who their big is during big-little week was the sorority way, the hope of you actually being my big came back.
Big sis reveal was the moment you finally revealed yourself to me. I was so excited to know my big was you. We already had a bond over animals, food, and various activities. You have already made me feel like I belong in our sorority, and I know I can come to you for anything. Seeing your face light up as I turned around to see you waiting for my reaction made me think of all of the amazing memories we will have together. Being with you for the rest of my life will only start the memories. We’ll be there for each other through boy drama, school stress and we’ll be holding each other’s hair over the toilet when needed. Our journey will consist of us obsessing over food, boys, laughter, dancing and attending each other’s weddings. This bond isn’t one that will only last during college. This is a bond forever. I love you biggie, so much.
I want to thank you.
Thank you for picking me, for accepting me into your very own Greek family. Thank you for taking me in under your wing right away. On bid day, I have never felt so comfortable talking to someone. As soon as I found out you were my Big, I couldn’t contain my excitement— so naturally, I cried. From the very first moment we met, you taught me everything I needed to know— how socials work, what my grades should be, and how to be a well-rounded panhellenic women. I felt so welcomed into our rock star of a family and that is all because of you. You have been a great role model for me.
Thank you for listening to me complain. Whether it was about a professor or something stupid someone did to piss me off, you listen to me. Sure I have people to vent to, but nothing compares to the comforting words you can give me at the end of a long day. Not only do you listen to me complain, but you tell me when to suck it up and be a big girl. You aren’t afraid to tell me if I’m being stupid and worrying over nothing, and we all know I need to hear that from time to time.
Thank you for food dates. Between Olive Garden, mac and cheese at your place, and the dining halls, we never fail to order a crap-ton of food. In a nutshell, I’m thankful you like to eat, and I don’t look like a food junkie all on my own.
Thank you for confiding in me. Not only do you listen to my problems, but you also tell me what is going on in your life. The fact that you trust me with your secrets and stories is such a great feeling. Sitting and talking with you about our lives is some of the best times I have with you
Thank you for being you. Without you, there are so many things that I would have never accomplished. Without you, I would not be the strong sorority women that I will be. Without you, I would be lost.
There are so many things that I have to thank you, my Big, for. Not only are you my Big, you're the big sister (mind that I am, in fact, legally older than you) I never got to have and my best friend. Thank you for being my person—I wouldn’t trade you for the world.
Xoxo,
Little
