A Thank You Letter to Alpha-O
Dear Alpha Omicron Pi,
Thank you cannot even begin to start explaining about how this sorority has changed my life. Words cannot begin to express how thankful I am for everything you have given me these past two and a half years. Every sister has a different story about why they joined such a wonderful sorority, but there are a fair few things that we share in common. Whether you are a sister of Alpha Omicron Pi or not, you have an inkling about what I am talking about. You gained something so true and honest, and maybe you do not even think you deserved such a wonderful sisterhood but you did. You gained your happily ever after.
In high school, I would have told you I never had a reason or need to join a sorority. When starting college, I could give you probably ten reasons on why I wanted to join one. I thought I would keep all my high school friends, and be closer to my twin sister who is also at ULM. To my surprise at the time, people tend to drift their separate ways. Now don’t get me wrong, it was a little upsetting, but people find their own paths with their majors, jobs, and extracurricular activities on campus. Truthfully, I did not really have anyone to eat ice cream and watch a lot of greys anatomy with, or go shopping with because of an “easy” chemistry exam. Needless to say, at the end of the day I was a little sad about how my college experience was turning out. Going Greek is an eye-opening experience that will honestly open your heart and your mind to new experiences. Everywhere I go, whether it be to class or on a vacation I always find a sister to sit next to or visit with. No matter where you end up you’ll always find yourself reconnecting with fellow sisters around the world.
I have learned that sisterhood is a difficult thing to define, but easy to feel. Sisterhood is being able to stay up all night and binge watch shows on Netflix. Sisterhood is staying up with you all night to comfort a heartbreak. Sisterhood is giving someone a well-deserved high five after passing that anatomy class. Sisterhood is loving every one of your sisters eternally, and having over one hundred sisters to catch you and hold your hand. This amazing sorority has allowed me to channel the best version of myself I can be. The best supporter, lover, and somewhat okay dance partner on a Friday night.
But a thank you can never sufficiently cover what this sisterhood has given me. It has a given me a bigger heart, a better work ethic, and an unwavering appreciation for our four founders, that founded this beautiful thing 119 years ago. So to all my sisters out there, I am forever grateful for each and every one of you. All of you have nourished this sorority and contributed something special to it: whether it be 100 years ago or present day. Alpha love always!
