College is a scary idea, especially coming in knowing absolutely nobody. There is no one from your graduating class and none of your friends there with you. I was walking into college blindsided with no one by my side. I was worried and scared and didn’t know if I was going to make any friends. But everyone said I would, and they were right!
My entire life, I had so many friends. I was friends with everyone in high school and was a social butterfly. But coming into a college that has 17,000 students and not knowing anyone is pretty scary and intimidating. The first few days were hard. I did not really know anyone and I was trying to meet new people and be as social and outgoing as possible. Which I might add can be pretty tiring.
As weeks went by I started to find some of the nicest girls which now at the end of my first semester I can call my best friends here at the University of Rhode Island. Lucky for me, almost all of my friends live on my floor; we are all two doors down from each other, which is amazing. We spend countless hours a day together, which are the best parts of my long stressful days of classes.
We have been through it all, from staying up till 2am studying together, gossiping about boys, painting each other’s nails, partying together, ordering Rhode House way too many times and laughing until we start crying. Times like these we will never forget.
I want to thank you all for being there for me at my best and worse. For loving me when times are tough. For always taking care of me when I get sick which happens way too often. For listening to me rant about boys. For listening to me complain about how messy my room is and how we need to buy more spray. For telling me I look great even when I look like a hot mess. And for always telling me it is okay, I can eat the cookie. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I cannot believe that we made it through our first semester of freshman year together. I am so glad that I met you guys and I do not know what I would have done without you these past few months. We have had our little bumps in the road, but I wouldn’t have wanted to have them with anyone else. I can’t wait for next semester and to be back with my best friends!
Everyone says you find your best friends your freshman year. And you will be friends with them for your entire life. I can now see what everyone is talking about. I could not imagine my life without these girls. Yes, it took a little time for me to find my best friends but the wait was definitely well worth it!
