With the 2016 Presidential campaign being as wild as it is, scandal after scandal, it is often a difficult task to reflect upon the last eight years and see how far our country has come. It is time we look back and realize the vital changes that took place in American history under the Obama Administration. By 2012, the country was facing a deteriorating economic crisis and had lost all hope, over the past eight years that hope has been restored to the people of the United States. There is a lot to be thankful for as the current Presidential Administration packs up in preparation for their departure from the White House.
Thank you to the President that told us we can. At 12 years old I sat with my class and witnessed history being made, as the country's first black President was inaugurated. At that point I truly believed what he said, yes we can. From that moment on I believed that anyone could become anything they hoped to become. Reflecting on that moment now, I have realized that our country is in fact capable of great change. We are now more ready than ever for a female President, for a greater presence of women in government positions. I take comfort in the fact that any of my political aspirations and the aspirations of others are now possible and encouraged.
Additionally to the gratitude that I feel towards the President, I, along with many others feel very grateful towards our Vice President and what he has done for women in the United States. Vice President Joe Biden along with the President has worked to ensure that changes were made in this country for the well being of the American population. Specifically, the Vice President has spoken out against campus sexual assault time and time again. Victims of sexual assault are often silenced or scared of the repercussions of speaking up, but throughout the past eight years women have had the voice of the Vice President of the United States on their side.
Over the past eight years through the leadership of the Presidential Administration, it has become evident that so many things are possible. Under the administration I have learned that marriage for all is possible, I have learned that healing after countless attacks is possible and that real change is achievable. I am thankful for the Administration I grew up with the Administration that gave me hope time and time again. Our leaders have shown us the change that our country is truly capable of making. The future of our country is unclear for now, however, with the stage that the current Presidential Administration has set, we are destined for exceptional possibilities.
