As a child of a single mother, I wonder sometimes if they have superpowers. I mean, they must have something that allows them to juggle 50 bazillion tasks at once and still stay sane. But, no. They aren't super human. They are just like everyone else. They are strong, courageous and they deserve to be recognized for all that they do. So, to all the single moms out there, I want to let you know that you're so greatly appreciated. Even if it takes your children 18 years to realize everything you did/do for them, your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. So, in case no one ever told you, thank you.
Thank you for working overtime, nights and picking up a second job so that I could play sports, go to camps, and vacation with my friends.
Thank you for going years wearing the same jeans and t-shirts so that I could get enough new school clothes.
Thank you for being my taxi driver for 16 years and taking me to school, sports practices, friends’ houses and doctor’s appointments.
Thank you for making me dinner, playing games and watching movies with me after your nine-hour shift at work.
Thank you for helping me with my homework and school projects instead of taking time for yourself to relax.
Thank you for painting my nails and straightening my hair for me when I know all you wanted was to take a nap.
Thank you for supporting my dreams, whether it was buying me a balance beam so I could practice gymnastics, or helping me memorize lines when I wanted to be an actress.
Thank you for giving me 200 percent even when you felt like you weren’t doing everything right, you couldn’t have been doing any better.
Thank you for sacrificing your social life in order to make time for me and all my activities.
Thank you for showing up to all my choir concerts, cross country races, and gymnastics meets and being my biggest cheerleader.
Thank you for staying up all night with me while I was sick, even if that meant you wouldn’t get any sleep before work.
Thank you for putting everyone else first, including me.
Thank you for staying positive even when times were tough and you wanted to break down. You kept me smiling and laughing and taught me that everything will always work out, and for that I am forever thankful.
