Role Model,

Ever since I was a little girl I've looked up to you with so much admiration and appreciation, always bursting with pride. I can always depend on you to support me through all of life's ups and downs, and I hope you know that I'll always be here for you too. You remind me every day that no matter how many times life knocks you on your ass, you have to keep battling every day to keep your dreams alive. You've taught me that there will be countless barriers to break through in order to get where I want to be, but if I keep my head down and my feet moving, nothing in this world can stop me. You've convinced me that as long as I keep the fire in my soul and the drive in my heart, nothing and no one can stand in the way of my goals. You've taught me that success is never something that is handed to you, it's something that requires your blood, sweat, tears, and guts day in and day out. If you want it, work for it. It's as simple as that. You've instilled in me such a grittiness, and have inspired me to scratch and claw my way to the top no matter how much it takes out of me or how badly I want to give up. You've encouraged me to be a fighter, to never take no for an answer, and to give 110 percent always. You've taught me so many valuable lessons, but the most important one is that hustle and heart can truly set you apart.

You're so dedicated in every facet of your life, and I can only hope that I'm half as successful as you someday. Your work ethic is inspiring as is your ability to chase down your dreams with reckless abandon, naysayers be damned. You've taken each and every one of life's trials and tribulations and channeled them into something productive. You allow others to doubt you, using their lack of faith to fuel your fire. You take each hardship as a lesson and you meet every challenge head on. Your work is dangerous, demanding, and often times thankless. And for that, you deserve every single victory that you've worked so tirelessly to achieve. I'm incredibly fortunate to have someone like you to look up to; someone to cheer me on when life is sweet, and more importantly someone to have my back when times get tough. I'm unbelievably proud of who you are and who you're becoming. I hope that I make you proud too. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
