Dear Big,
To start off, I just want to thank you for choosing me. Picking a little is just as nerve wracking as picking potential new members. Your little has to be perfect. She has to be similar to you. You have to see yourself being a mentor and a best friend to the girl you choose, and I’m so glad you saw that in me. I’m beyond thankful everyday to have such an amazing relationship with you. For the rest of this letter, I just want to thank you for everything you do for me. I know that I don’t always thank you, so here it goes.
Thank you for being more than just a big, but a best friend. As our friendship grows, I can no longer see my life without you. You’ve been there for me when friends that I’ve been friends with for years were not. When you lived on campus, we were practically attached at the hip. We went everywhere together, and I might as well have moved in with you. We were “that big/little duo.” We tell each other everything. We even tell each some TMI moments that are always to funny not to share.
Thank you for putting up with me on a daily basis. I know I’m not the easiest person to put up with, but thank you for never leaving. You put up with my attitude daily and hardly say anything about it. You listen to me rant about life countless times when you really should just tell me to shut up. You’ve never given up on me and I thank you for that.
Thank you for being my mom away from home. You’re always there when I fall (literally). Thanks for always picking me up when that happens. You’re always there with the perfect advice, even if you haven’t been through the experience yourself. You’re a personal therapist that I don’t have to pay for, just like my mom. I’ll ask you anything about life, and you’ll give me an honest answer. You even do my hair. Thank you for all the times you’ve fixed my hair because I have no idea what I’m doing, but you do. You even feed me when I’m hungry. Thanks for all the times you’ve paid for my food like a good mother does when their kids are poor and have no money.
Thank you for being my partner in crime. I’m glad you like to do stupid stuff with me. “Remember that one time” stories are the best stories to tell. You’re always down to do whatever whenever and that’s the type of person everyone needs in their life, even if the activity may or may not be illegal. It’s all good.
Thank you for being the older sister I always wanted. As a typical older sister does, she’ll argue with her younger sister. It happens, but these arguments always reminded me how close we are because they were always over the stupidest things. You let me borrow your clothes. What else is an older sister for than to take clothes from? Or the times where we slept in the same bed. There was plenty of space, but for some reason we crammed ourselves into a twin bed. If that’s not sisterly, then I don’t know what is.
Thank you for telling me how it is. If I get a bad grade on an assignment, you’ll be just as disappointed as I was and tell me to get my life together OR ELSE. And when it comes to boys, thanks for always telling me when I am being a complete idiot for keep fooling around with him. You’re right. You’re always right. Thanks for not being afraid of telling me when I’m being a brat. I needed that countless times, and I’ll do the same for you. Thanks for always telling when I look like crap or if something doesn’t match. I always need help getting myself dressed. Thank god for you.
Thank you for leading me through the sorority. It was because of you that I felt most comfortable in our sorority. You would answer any questions I was afraid to ask anyone else. You made sure I went to events and introduced me to everyone. Thanks for guiding me through our sorority.
Thank you for loving me. I know that you love me through the way you treat me. You get excited when I tell you about the things I accomplish. You constantly check up on my progress or how my day was. If I tell you I love ya, you will always say it back. I’m glad this friendship is for life because I’m honestly not sure if I could do life without you now.
“Got along without you before I met you. Can't get along without you now.”
Love,
Your Little One
