A Thank You To Cosmopolitan Magazine
LiveJournal

Dear Cosmopolitan Magazine,

Thank you for being the magazine women and girls from all over the world can constantly count on. You are like the big sister of publications that we can always trust to comfort us and make us feel empowered.

It all started when Helen Gurley Brown became editor-in-chief in 1965 and shook the world.

She wasn't afraid to talk about topics that went against the social norms and created an atmosphere that sexually liberated women. Brown was a badass, strong woman that helped the magazine grow to where it is today.

Whether it's your daily horoscope or an article about how to prepare for a job, you can always count on Cosmo for amazing advice. They cover topics that girls all over the world are dealing with but too uncomfortable to ask about. I never cease to come across articles that answer questions I was curious about or personally dealing with at the time.

Cosmopolitan Magazine helps a girl like me, who grew up with two older brothers and was maybe too bashful to ask my friends to give me advice on certain topics. Being older now, my friends and I absolutely love flipping threw the pages together and reading articles together. Nothing better than wine and Cosmo night!

I love keeping updated on celebrity gossip and style tips, which I know I can always count on you to have the greatest and latest. I've learned how to style myself, do my hair, choose the right beauty products...basically be a functioning girl with your magazine. Thank you for stepping up my game since my pre-teen magazine days.

You always show women how to feel beautiful in their own skin and I love that about this magazine. It's so important to boost self-esteem and self-confidence in women.

I absolutely love that you offer advice to women of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities. There are no boundaries with your magazine and women love that, because it's nice to learn about all cultures. You might write an article that doesn't relate to us personally, but it educates women to help their friends and basically makes one big community. You get people talking and create a very open environment for women to discuss topics they might have strayed away from.

Regardless of the topic, you always kill it in your articles. Education is so important and you cover very important topics that women should be aware of. Whether it's educating women on careers, college, sex, health and fitness, style, or relationships, you are always focusing on helping the readers become the best possible versions of themselves. This is a major reason why I love your magazine SO much.

Keep on writing amazing articles and empowering women all over the world. I thank you for all the wonderful advice, endless laughter, and entertainment you've given us. I hope one day to contribute to helping others the way you do and using my words to comfort others! I will forever have endless respect for your magazine.

Xoxo,

Cait

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
