Thank you H-E-B. Thank you for quickly responding to the areas damaged by Hurricane Harvey. Thank you for everything that you have done to help the people who lost everything and were relocated for shelter.
For my small town of Portland, Texas, you were the first store to open back up after the storm. The entire city was without electricity and without water, but you were prepared. Leading into the storm, never once did you run out of water.
In an effort to keep the H-E-B’s in operation, natural gas-powered microgrids are being used at more than a dozen H-E-B grocery stores in the Houston area. Within a day of Hurricane Harvey hitting Houston, 63 stores in Houston and nearby cities were open for business. Pictures adorned Facebook, depicting 18-wheelers coming into the Coastal Bend area.
Curious, I looked up what those 18-wheelers can do and carry. For those of you who don’t know, those 18-wheelers housed ATMs for people to withdraw cash from, a mobile pharmacy, and basic tools. They sent in their mobile kitchens that have the capacity to serve up to 6,200 meals per hour. Aside from services. H-E-B has also donated a total of $1 million which includes Food Bank donations, monetary commitments and other relief efforts. They have even donated more than 62,000 cases of water (39 truckloads) and more than 45,000 bags of ice (12 truckloads).
Not only is the management of H-E-B helping the area of Texas affected, but the employees have done so much to help as well. Nearly 100 employees from the H-E-B location in San Antonio volunteered to help sort donations as the San Antonio Food Bank. 100 more H-E-B employees embarked on a voyage to Victoria to help serve those who needed help.
As of right now, more than 100 employees form the San Antonio region will be deployed to Houston to help in-store recovery and relief efforts. According to Danny Flores, a truck driver in relief efforts, said that he has personally helped during 17 disasters in his 23 years with the company.
Thank you to Danny, and the additional employees of H-E-B who have donated, volunteered and helped serve those who are victims of the utter devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.
If you wish to help those who are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Harvey, H-E-B shoppers can spend an extra $1, $3, or $5 on tear sheets at the register. The proceeds will go to either the Red Cross, Salvation Army, or Feeding Texas.
Thank you H-E-B for being a well-respected place that hires people who care and strive to actively serve others.
Here, everything really is better!
