When many people experience a breakup, they can't wait to move on to their next bigger and better relationship. When you go from being with just one person to having a range of possibilities, you can't help but think your next relationship will far exceed the one before. But as you go out into this new world, you might start to realize your ex wasn't that bad. If you dare say it, they might have even been a catch. Far too often, though, we realize that we don't always know what we have until it's gone. This is a lesson that we all must learn, and it might not always come in the form of a relationship.
Currently, President Barrack Obama is America's ex that they're realizing wasn't really all that bad. In fact, we've come to our senses and a majority of us like him, at least according to the latest polling data. After going out into the world and seeing our other options, we're not too impressed (I'm looking at you, Donald Trump).
Unlike your latest ex, though, the U.S. Constitution has strict rules about getting back together with this soon-to-be previous president. However, what we can do? After the years of insults, partisanship and excessive memes, it is time to look back at President Barack Obama's career and actually thank him for many of the positive things he has done during his time in office.
Thank you, President Obama, for lowering unemployment to 5 percent, which is considered normal for a healthy economy.
Thank you for supporting our Supreme Court and helping love win during the legalization of same-sex marriage.
Thank you for reopening our embassy in Cuba and bringing us a step closer to a more peaceful relationship.
Thank you for providing millions of Americans the ability to be insured through the Affordable Care Act.
Thank you for being a calm leader when faced with situations that show current presidential candidates at their worst.
Thank you for taking the massive federal deficit you were handed at the beginning of your term and reducing it by two-thirds.
Thank you for serving as commander-in-chief over the military that eliminated Osama Bin Laden.
Thank you for also serving as commander-in-chief for all of our troops, regardless of sexual orientation and repealing the military's "don't ask don't tell" policy.
Thank you for being a president that we didn't realize was so great until it was time for you to go.
So, just like your ex, it's almost time to say goodbye to President Obama. Both will always have a special place in our hearts, or history, but it is now time to take the lessons from our past and learn from them to help us navigate the future. Here's hoping that 2016 will bring us all equally great presidential candidates and future relationships. I mean, odds are we will have at least one of those ... right?
