Garry Marshall may not be a name everyone is familiar with, but his work is. Many of the classic television shows and movies from the past 50 years have either been written or directed by Marshall. When it popped up on my news feed that Garry Marshall had passed, I pulled up his IMDb page and saw how much he really contributed to television and movies.
1. "Happy Days"
The show takes place in the 1950s and follows the Cunningham family through the adventures of life, with lessons from The Fonz. The show lead to a few spin-off shows.
2. "Joanie Loves Chachi"
A spin off of "Happy Days," this show follows Joanie Cunningham and Chachi Arcola as they pursue music and love.
3. "Laverne and Shirley"
Staring Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall, Garry Marshall's sister, "Laverne and Shirley" follows the lives of these two women during the 1950s to early 1960s, the duo first appearing on "Happy Days" in 1975.
4. "The Odd Couple"
Based on the play of the same name by Neil Simon, Garry Marshall created and adapted this for TV.
5. "Mork and Mindy"
This show, starring Robin Williams and Pam Dawber, centers around an alien, Mork, who comes into this woman's life, Mindy, and things have never been the same. Mork was first seen on "Happy Days" in 1978.
6. "Beaches"
This classic movie has touched the hearts of so many over the years, and is truly a movie of friendship.
7. "Pretty Woman"
Starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, "Pretty Woman" is a movie that will span generations.
8. "Runaway Bride"
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts pair up once again in this romantic comedy about a woman who has left the groom at the alter, and a reporter who falls in love.
9. "The Princess Diaries" movies
Mia Thermopolis is just an average girl, until her grandmother comes into town and tells her the news of a lifetime. Starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, who doesn't dream of being a princess? But there are always a few bumps along the way.
Mia is now Princess of Genovia, but it's time for her to find a husband if she wants to be Queen. So starts the quest for the perfect suitor, but just because a guy seems to be your prince doesn't mean he's your fairy tale ending.
10. "Valentine's Day" and "New Year's Eve"
Theses two movies follow several sets of people in one these special holidays. Although each set is different, it's amazing how everyone is connected. Both "Valentine's Day" and "New Year's Eve" have all-star casts, including but not limited to Jennifer Garner, Jamie Foxx, Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Hallie Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zac Efron, Lea Michelle, Robert DeNiro and so many more.
These works are just a few of the shows and movies Garry Marshall has brought life to, and made into cherished works. I remember watching reruns of "Happy Days" with my parents when I was a kid, or re-watching The "Princess Diaries" movies over and over again. Although he is gone, his legacy will live on for generations to come. Thank you, Garry Marshall, for the memories your work has created.
