A Thank You To My College Significant Other

College is the best time of your life, but it can also be the most stressful. With college comes many projects and tests during the same week as well as times of doubt and drama. The media portrays college as a time for partying and hookups; while that's what some people prefer, others have a strong relationship that they stay loyal to throughout college. What's better than at the end of the night, telling your person about your day, good or bad, and having them support you? As we reach the end of the semester, if you haven't thanked your significant other for everything that they have done for you or helped you through, now is the time to do so.

Thanks for always listening to me.

College brings on stress. Stress from classes, stress from social environments and stress of the future. It always feels like there is so much to be done in so little time. Whether I have so many exams and I'm scared of flunking them all, or I got in a fight with my best friend, you always were willing to stay on the phone, or meet up with me to hear me vent about it all. No matter how many times I repeated myself over and over, you always were there to support me. You drop everything you are doing to help me out, even if you have a big test the next morning. I'm sure there are times that you don't want to hear me ramble on and on, but you do without making me feel like a bother.

Thanks for always pushing me.

There are times when I get so upset that I just want to give up on everything. Oftentimes, I'll wonder if the things that I'm doing are worth it. You have so much faith in me that you know that I can conquer anything. It's hard for me to have that confidence sometimes, but seeing how much you believe in me, pushes me to always give my all. You are a huge motivator for me. I always know that I can come to you when I get a good grade on a test or when a new opportunity opens up for me because you will tell me how proud you are of me, and that is a great feeling. I also know that I can come to you when I get a bad grade on a test or I'm struggling, and you will tell me that it's not the end of the world and give me the motivation to try even harder next time.

Thanks for always taking me places that I need to go.

Not having a car on campus isn't a big deal, until I run out of makeup, I need to buy a new shirt or I need paint for crafting. You work time into your busy schedule to come pick me up, just to take me to do what I need to do. I don't nearly thank you enough for how grateful I am for that.

Thanks for cheering me up when I'm down.

It's pretty common to have mental breakdowns occasionally in college when students just need to cry. I have them every now and then. I'm sure there's nothing harder for you than asking me what's wrong and I can't really give you an answer, it's just "one of those days". Whether I'm just depressed and I don't know why or something tragic happened to me, you do what you can to make me feel better. Most times, these are situations that you are not involved in and are unaware of exactly how I feel, especially when I can't put it into words. While these situations don't directly affect you, they do because you care about me so much that whatever affects me affects you. So thank you for doing whatever it takes to make me feel better, even when you don't really understand how I feel. Whether it's just a half hour phone call or surprising me with Ben & Jerry's, they all mean the world to me because you are constantly showing me how much you care, regardless of what is going on in your life.

Thanks for the tough love, even when I didn't want to hear it.

There are times that I'm in the wrong, times that I put myself first when I shouldn't and times that I overreact. You have no problem telling me when I am doing any of these things, and while I don't see your side at first, I do later. Whether I said something that I shouldn't have, or I'm not being myself, you will call me out on it. I might hate it when you do it at first, but thank you. Thank you for guiding me in the right direction. Sometimes, people just need an outsider looking in to bring something to another's attention.

Thank you for being spontaneous.

Whether it's a sleepover for the weekend or a trip to dinner and a movie, you go out of your way to make me smile. Sometimes we all just need to take a break from schoolwork and have some fun, and you make that so easy. Thank you for always being down to have a sleepover, order take out or take a trip somewhere! You make life a lot more fun!

Thank you for staying true to me.

College has a lot of social pressures. It's common for people to come to college in a relationship and be single just a few weeks later. There are many parties, and with parties comes flirting. Thank you for staying loyal to me, and making me your first priority. Especially going to different universities, the temptation may even be higher because a couple won't see each other all the time. Even going to different schools, I know I can have fun with my friends but still say goodnight to you at the end of the night. That goes for any couple whether you both go to the same or different university. So thank you for staying true to me. Thank you for coming to spend time with me even when your friends want to go out. Thank you for always including me with your friends and showing me off, rather than keeping me a secret.

I love you so much and cannot nearly thank you enough for everything that you do for me.You make college that much easier!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
