Texas Game Day Fashion: Tailgates Vs. Watch Parties

Everyone knows one of our most well known traditions here at UT is our football games. Why? It's Texas, and it's football, and everything (especially our school spirit) is bigger in Texas. The best part of this tradition for girls is how we dress ourselves up for home games. But what happens when there isn’t a home game? Why would we show up wearing dresses, boots, and perfectly complimenting accessories just to watch a TV screen? We wouldn’t. This is the difference between game day tailgates and watch parties that really matters to us. (And let’s be honest, as much as we like our dresses, we would much rather be cute and comfy in our favorite blinged out VS PINK Texas gear to cheer on our team with our squad, am I right or am I right?)

Tackling Game Day And Tailgates

The morning of every home football game, we ladies start primping and prepping because everyone knows how important it is to look our very “Texas best” for the action-packed day. Here are three of the most important things you will need before showing up to DKR Stadium.

1. Game Day Worthy Clothes

Whether it be a dress, or a cute top and skirt, it better be burnt orange, white or a combination of both.

2. Boots

Everyone will be wearing boots. Girls, guys, moms, dads, alumni and even their kids will probably be rocking cowboy boots.

3. A Small Purse

To carry your very important items like your phone, wallet, lip gloss/lipstick, school ID and ticket to the game! Crossbody purses and wristlets are very necessary to my game day survival.

Away Game Attire

This is Texas, and we still have major festivities going on for our away games. You might end up at a frat house, a friend’s house, a sports bar or your dorm’s TV room. The dress code is more lenient when it comes to watch parties, but of course you will want to look your best out of the stadium as well. Here are some ideas to inspire your watch party wardrobe.

1. VS PINK Collegiate Collection

This is the easiest way to look cute and show your school spirit at the same time. I pair their burnt orange sparkly tee with jeans and cowboy boots to feel comfortable and still look good for my Horns.

2. Texas Jersey

Have a favorite player? Wearing a Texas jersey and shorts is a classic way to be casual, cute and look like you know your football facts.

3. The Fun Stuff

Think of it this way: more playful, more fun. Bring a foam finger, pom poms or a mini football to mess around with during commercial breaks.

Best Of Both Worlds

There are a few noteworthy items that I use whether I’m headed to a tailgate or a watch party.

1. Face Tats

You’re going to want a lot of these little tattoos. You might be repping your club or sorority at the game or maybe it’s a sparkly longhorn on your cheek, but it’s always a fun way to show your school spirit.

2. Sunglasses

Texas, especially during football season, is super hot. Be prepared and accessorized at the game or at a watch party with cute sunglasses.

3. Complimenting Jewelry

Again with the burnt orange and white, but feel free to throw in some gold, silver, brown, black, and even turquoise accessories. A little jewelry can totally dress up any outfit to make you “gameday ready.”

Game days at Texas are some of the best memories you’ll make. What’s better than game day? A Texas win! Maybe I’m superstitious, but I feel that the more school pride we have, the more likely we will have that victory. Make sure to show your spirit from head to toe by looking like a true Longhorn for our first game on September 4th!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
