What is terrorism? Who would you consider to be a terrorist? It’s important to understand in the light of what has recently happened with Orlando. Federal law states that an act of terrorism is a violent action in the US, which is intended to intimidate a civilian population and/or to influence government conduct. Why are the Orlando murderer and the white male who killed the blacks in South Carolina (Dylann Roof) under the same title of terrorism? Was it because he was white and the Orlando murderer was not? The moment the Orlando murderer was released the world “terrorism” was said. The South Carolina murderer killed nine black Christians in a church. People deemed the gun laws as a joke then – political hosts even laughed and made jokes about the gun laws at that time. It was a time for comedy and not focusing on what was important then and now. It was a joke because it was a white male killing black people – a white male that was probably “crazy” at the time.
When someone who is of a Muslim name and Afghan decent is labeled a terrorist, we then need to change these laws and get the gun laws sticker? Because it was so easy for him to get guns – but, at the same time it was easy for any mass shooter to get a gun, even one person. So, why weren’t people saying that when those nine black people died, the same situation (not as many people), but the white male got the guns from somewhere did he not? They all get the guns somewhere. We did not label the South Carolina murderer a terrorist? But, why? It was an act of violence; he was intending to scare someone – anyone by doing this act of. But, why? It was an act of violence; he was intending to scare someone – anyone by doing this act of terror. Because he was white, he was not a terrorist though right? He was deemed as crazy, or irrational. He even was probably deemed as having a mental illness by news media and political anchors on TV; which, is more likely to be the victim of the crime instead of the doer of it.
They are not considering the Orlando murderer to be under a mental illness or to be crazy? They are not saying he is not all there in some aspect because of this like they stuck up for the South Carolina Murderer. They are not making excuses for this, they are simply deeming him as a terrorist right off the back. The moment his picture or name hit the internet it was “terrorist.” I am not saying that we should be sticking up for any of these murderers because that is what they are. I am merely stating that in light of tragedy, we should start changing what is important – gun laws and racism. Just because someone is of a certain decent does not make them any less of a terrorist. If they do a terrorist action they are is terrorist and I do not understand why that is a wish-washy term we are using it as. It was not meant to be used for some people, if you do a terrorist act, you should therefore be deemed as a terrorist. No matter what color you are. You may not have intended to scare anyone and this was a harmful act, but you did. The community of the LGBTQ is afraid, just like the South Carolina murderer made black people scared – whether you lived there or not.
This is a time for change, this is making us aware that what we are doing is not right. How we are segregating white people from everyone else is getting old and people are becoming more and more aware of that. It’s becoming something to aware that even white people are noticing it. We need a change.
