Ten Things I Hate About Being A Woman

Between boys, misogyny, and periods I don't know how we do it.

Ten Things I Hate About Being A Woman
WeHeartIt

When we, as women, joke about hating women. It's funny and meant to make us laugh. This, however, is not a joke. These are ten all-too-real things that I hate about being born a woman and identifying as a woman.

1. I hate that I am not considered complete until I find my husband who will somehow make my life perfect, whole, and fabulous. There is this idea that as a woman I am not successful until I properly create my family. I hear things like, "Just wait until you have kids," or "Don't worry, one day you'll meet your husband and everything will be fine." However, life is not something that ends when you meet your significant other and it does not wait to start until you start your family.

2. I hate that my emotions are judged and put aside because of my hormones since women are "just more hormonal than men."

3.I hate that I have to wear makeup. If I don't, I'm lazy and do not care about my appearance. If I do, I wear too much and I'm misleading or "fooling men".

4. I hate that I am labeled as one extreme or another. When starting a new relationship, we worry about being perceived as "slutty" or a "prude". We worry about the boundary between fun, too wild, and boring. Once you find that boundary and tread on that careful line, you are admired and desired. If you know this, you are considered conceited, but if you don't realize this, you're naive.

5. I hate that I have to shave when that's optional for men.

6. I hate that your harassment is supposed to be flattering. Your cat-calling, weird compliments, and odd suggestions are unappreciated. I don't care if my "ass don't quit." Please do not call me honey, sweetie, or babe. I'm not sure how I'm expected to respond when the Jimmy John's delivery guy tells me and my friends not to have "too much fun."

7. I hate that my body is not my own. A governing body, made mostly of men, decides what I can and cannot do with my body.

8. Every. Single. Thing. About. My. Period. The bloating, the blood, the hormones, the cramps. Oh my goodness, the cramps.

9. I hate that I have to be happy all the time. If you aren't happy, you aren't having a good time and that is completely unacceptable.

10. I hate that by writing this article, I will be labelled as a man-hating feminist.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
