Let me start by saying that Autumn is definitely the best season for New England. With brutal winters, dreary, muddy springs, and horribly humid summer heat waves, the cool, dry air of fall in New England is rather refreshing. Not to mention the beautiful foliage as the trees begin to change from green to all shades of red, orange, yellow and brown.
But instead of summer blockbusters, the video game industry tends to release its biggest titles in the fall. While this can sometimes take away from the beautiful weather we receive this time of year, the companies that produce these games are very smart: They release their most time consuming content immediately before the dark of winter, but also when school is back in session (they must be out to ruin my GPA, I SWEAR).
So here are 10 reasons (or rather, titles) why fall 2015 is going to one of the best gaming seasons ever and boy I am going to be reevaluating my life choices on both time management and spending habits by the end of it.
1. "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain"

2. "Mad Max"

3. "Destiny: The Taken King"
Last September, Bungie, the developer of the hit series "Halo" released their first new IP since 2001: "Destiny." A game that was supposed to be one of the best games of the next decade got stale quickly, as its familiar RPG elements and grinding for gear were really nothing new, and the horrible RNG (random number generator) system for loot drops left many of us praying to RNGesus every time we finished a strike mission only to be left hanging out with nothing to show for our work. Thankfully, "Destiny" got a lot better as time went on, with large update patches and changes, not to mention two excellent DLC packs. But now, "Destiny" has completed its first year, and per Bungie's schedule, we are now rolling over into "Destiny 2.0" for its second year with "The Taken King," releasing on Sept. 15. This is not a standalone game, but rather a large expansion for the original game. "The Taken King" and "2.0" as a whole bring an entirely new experience in the form of even more great updates to the game to keep people involved instead of quitting after a month like last time.
4. "Forza Motorsport 6"
As any of my readers know, I'm a gearhead if there ever was one. At least some portion of each of my days revolves around cars and the automotive world, so you can probably guess how excited I am for the sixth installment in the ever popular "Forza Motorsport" franchise, also releasing on Sept. 16. While not incredibly different from number five, released with the launch of the Xbox One back in 2013, "Forza Motorsport 6" includes several revamps to the visual and physical aspects of the game. Specifically, there is now dynamic weather in the form of rain on any of the new courses, along with standing water to hydroplane on in the actual spots where it develops in real life, thanks to laser scans of the real life race courses. There is now also night racing with realistic lighting, so if you're running simulation damage and lose your headlights, you'll have a pretty tough time getting anywhere. I can't wait to explore the new lineup that includes hundreds of cars, especially the cover car, the new Ford GT.
5. "Halo 5: Guardians"
Another year, another "Halo." While I'm not the biggest fan of the new/improved "Halo" title every season (they seem to have largely declined in quality as a result of their frequency), I am still a loyal fan of the series and its impeccable story line. After 2012's "Halo 4," we see the Master Chief on the run for reasons unexplained. Included is the return of the ever popular Nathan Fillion of "Firefly" fame, voicing Gunnery Sergeant Buck from 2009's "Halo 3: ODST," along with a whole host of new characters. I personally think the storyline has taken a less mysterious turn than it used to have, but I'm glad that at least some of the backstory is being fleshed out. I guess the unknown concept art from old "Halo" art books is just going to be a lot less cool now. Nevertheless, it's going to be one of the hottest titles of the year, and one I'll definitely be picking up come Oct. 27.
6. "Need For Speed"
Just as with Forza, car games are like a drug for me being the gearhead that I am. And thus, "Need For Speed" will hopefully be the return to glory that the series has needed for years. One of the most popular titles in the series was "Underground," which took place only at night and involved cars that could be customized in virtually every way. But instead of crapped-out Hondas, this time around it's real honest-to-God performance cars, that can have bodywork done, a new set of rims, some realistic engine work, and to top it off, an accurate tuning system for handling. The cherry on top is that all of the components involved in this come from real-life manufacturers; gone are the days of foolish unnamed mods to increase top speed, or strange, sci-fi esque weapons to deter police in a more than forgettable cops vs. racers drama. Granted, the new narrative looks just about as lame (drift more for increased street cred, bro!), but with the inclusion of Nakai-san's legendary RWB Porsches, the fan-favorite Rocket Bunny exterior kits for various Japanese sports coupes, or the amazing fifteen52 wheels courtesy of Outlaw Magnus Walker, I can't wait to build a demonic street machine that wows other players. Nov. 3 can't come soon enough.
7. "Call of Duty: Black Ops III"
Just as with "Halo" nowadays, another year, another "Call of Duty." While I'm from the unpopular camp that enjoys the campaign single-player mode as opposed to the hectic, competitive and douchebag-infested multiplayer mode, "Black Ops III" is undoubtedly going to obliterate sales records. I personally cannot wait to experience the next chapter of the "Black Ops III" storyline, as the Cold War thriller novel structure and content is one of my favorite genres of all time. Lines are going to be exploding out the door in anticipation of the midnight release on Nov. 6, so get ready for impending onslaught of "Call of Duty" talk at the water cooler.
8. "Fallout 4"
So, now for the BIG one. "Fallout 4" is the first canonical release in the series since 2008's "Fallout 3," which represented the departure from the top-down isometric gameplay of prior titles into a first/third person action RPG. This time set in the post-nuclear apocalyptic wasteland of Boston, my inner nomad can't wait to explore the bombed out downtown area and scour the surrounding towns. We already know that MIT is a confirmed location to explored, referred to as "The Institution," so why can't Babson be included? There isn't enough space in this article for me to write every little thing I'm excited about for in this game, so take my word for it: this is very likely going to be receiving the Game of the Year award from nearly every large publication with a gaming related section in addition to the numerous gaming-only sites. Seriously, if you have any interest in gaming, pick this one up. It's going to blow you away, and I can guarantee that.
9. "Star Wars Battlefront"
Just as with "Fallout," it's been quite awhile since we've seen a "Battlefront" title hit the market. In fact, it's been over a decade, as "Battlefront 2" was released in 2005. Undoubtedly releasing on Nov. 17 to coincide with the upcoming release of "Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Battlefront" is the long awaited return to large-scale "Star Wars" combat. Want to fly a Snowspeeder over the ice plains of Hoth, blasting advancing Empire troops, and then wrap your tow-cable around an AT-AT walker's legs to recreate that iconic movie moment? You can do just that. Storming the rebel base as a Snowtrooper, fighting in the cramped ice-tunnels? Yep, that too. Die-hard fans are going to be recreating their favorite moments time and time again, but experiencing it from their own perspective in a way they create. I can't wait for this one!
10. Tom Clancy's "Rainbow Six Siege"
Finally, a return to the forgotten "Rainbow Six" franchise is welcomed by many fans, myself included. I demoed this game on both Xbox One and PC at PAX Prime a few weeks ago, and am eagerly awaiting the closed beta coming on the 24th. Completely destructible environments are abound here; want to breach a room from the floor above? Go ahead. The dynamic amount of options that players have, from rappelling up to windows, breaching virtually any wall, in addition to others, combined with the realistic movement of heavily geared soldiers and the destructibility makes for a nail-biting competitive experience that will undoubtedly be making it into the esports circuit very soon due to its signature "Counter-Strike" aesthetic. Plus, this releases on Dec. 1, a few days before my birthday, so I hope to snag this one as a gift if at all possible.
And there you have it folks. The top 10 reasons why I'm going to be broke by the end of this fall, in addition to being heavily deprived of sleep and proper nutrition.
