Yes, it's the Nutmeg State. No, we don't produce nutmeg.

Even though I've lived in North Carolina for a little over a year now, I still call the state of Connecticut home, since that's where I've spent most of my life. A lot of people overlook Connecticut since it's tiny on the map and it seems like nothing major ever really happens there. I've decided to take this opportunity to share just a few of the things that make me so proud to call Connecticut home.

1. UCONN!

Although I attend NC State now (GO PACK!), I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the University of Connecticut Huskies. Everyone knows the UConn women's basketball team is ranked number one in the country, and UConn is also one of the top public universities in the country. Plus it also has UConn Dairy Bar, which everyone knows has the best ice cream.

2. Fall Colors

Fall in Connecticut is known to be one of the most beautiful times of the year. Everywhere you look, you'll be able to foliage in gorgeous shades of red, yellow, and orange. A lot of people from other states like to drive through Connecticut just to see the amazing fall colors.

3. We have the BEST pizza!

Connecticut is known for having some of the best pizza. We have our own style of pizza, New Haven- style, which originated in New Haven, CT. Just hit up Pepe's to try one of Connecticut's culinary gems.

4. Some of New England's best beaches are in CT.

Although our weather doesn't let us use our beaches for very long, Connecticut has some of the best beaches in New England.

5. Tons of waterfalls and great hiking trails.

A lot of my summers in Connecticut were spent hiking the many trails we have. There are so many different trails all over the state to choose from, varying in difficulty and scenery. A lot of the trails are near amazing waterfalls too, which makes the hiking absolutely worth it.

6. Winter in Connecticut is beautiful.

I used to complain about how cold it got In Connecticut every year during the winter, but it was only after I moved to North Carolina and spending my December in fifty degree weather that I realized how much I miss Connecticut winters. My backyard would truly look like a winter wonderland when it would snow.

7. We're in between Boston and New York City.

Living in Connecticut made it really easy to travel to two of the biggest cities in the country: Boston and New York City. Both cities were never more than about two hours away, and public transportation also made traveling to them very easy. A lot of my weekends were spent in either Boston or New York City with my friends and family.

8. Yale

Not only is Yale ranked number three in the country, but its architecture is also aesthetically pleasing.

9. John Mayer

Singer/ Songwriter John Mayer was born and brought up in Connecticut, and we all know how great he is.

10. Scrabble

Think about Connecticut the next time you play a game of Scrabble! The first Scrabble factory was established in Dodgingtown, Connecticut in 1948.

Connecticut is a great state with a lot of history! I'm proud to be from Connecticut.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
