The first step of overcoming addiction is to admit you have a problem. I know that I have a problem. My love for shoes is quite strong, but this addiction is one that I probably won’t overcome.
1. You have an entire section of your closet (or a separate closet entirely) solely for your shoes.
Pun intended.
2. You’re always drawn to the shoe department or shoe stores.
When I’m at the mall with my mom for any reason, we usually end up looking at shoes. We just can’t help it. We may go into the mall with the intention of shopping for a birthday present for a family member, but we’ll more than likely spend most of the trip looking at shoes.
3. You’ll find any reason to buy a new pair of shoes.
Your best friend’s graduation party? New shoes. New top? Needs a matching pair of shoes. Landed a new job? New shoes. Your favorite designer released a new style? New shoes.
4. You have a pair of shoes for every weather.
You have rain boots, snow boots, formal shoes, heels, wedges, gym shoes, flip flops, sandals, moccasins, and flats. No matter the weather, your feet will always be prepared and looking stylish.
5. Packing is nearly impossible.
Airlines’ weight restrictions are sometimes my worst enemy. A five day trip means a few different outfits for different situations, and of course, those outfits all need a different pair of shoes. Sometimes even an extra large suitcase just doesn't cut it. Sucking it up and leaving a few shoes behind and swapping for a neutral shoe that can go with almost every outfit is hard.
6. People always make a comment about your shoes.
Most people only have a few shoes that they can wear for different situations, so when you’re always wearing a new pair, people notice. Exposing someone to your shoe collection is always interesting because it’s usually triple the amount of shoes they have.
7. You justify every new pair of shoes.
Money might be tight for the rest of the week, but how could you pass up that a great deal on a pair of cute shoes? You can’t.
8. People come to you for shoe advice.
Whether they need to borrow shoes or need to know where the best deals are, people seek your advice on shoes.
Everyone knows you’re addicted, and sometimes people even feed your addiction. My mom is probably the worst culprit, but that’s okay. My addiction to shoes isn’t hurting anyone, just my wallet.
