Tell Me It Works Out

Life gets tough. You're constantly working hard and so rarely your hard work comes to fruition. But when it does, it's absolutely amazing. Essentially, the highs are lofty and the lows are like falling through an abyss. This poem is how I felt during one of the lows, when I was so frustrated I just didn't quite know if it was worth working so hard. Sometimes, all you need are words of affirmation that tell you that the work you're putting in is worth it.

Tell Me It Works Out

Life works out

Doesn’t it?

I think it does…

I mean it should,

Shouldn’t it?

We work like diligent soldiers.

Constantly, we do what is told of us.

We occasionally stray but we’re good kids.

We listen.

So, life should be easy.

Right?

I mean,

We don’t sleep,

To appease all of “them”

Or is it “ourselves?”

The lines blur so often.

We don’t stop.

Until our bodies make us stop.

We don’t.

So, it should all pay off,

Shouldn’t it?

The work we put in =

The work we get out.

100% Efficiency.

I mean…

Please.

Someone say yes.

Please…

Tell me it's worth it.

Tell me it works out.

Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
