California teenager Cody Pines is being hailed as a hero after a video, showing him coming to the aid of a blind classmate, went viral. The video depicts a bully attacking the visually impaired student, until the teenager punches the bully himself, bringing him to the ground. You hear Pines say “you trying to jump a f****ing blind kid bro? What the f**k is your problem?”
The bully has been arrested for misdemeanor battery according to the New York Daily News. The article also affirms that the bully and the victim have a history of not getting along.
The school is investigating Pines’ behavior as well, due to its violent nature breaking their “zero-tolerance policy.” An online petition has reached almost 81,000 supporters after news of Pines’ possible suspension was heard. Online commenters are praising Pines for stepping in to help a classmate in need, and regarding his actions as heroic.
The truth of the matter is, when we hear the word “bullying” we can think of a specific situation in our own personal lives where bullying has taken place. This incident has further opened the conversation of bullying in our schools systems, and what actions need to be taken to stop occurrences like this.
