When Technology Fails You For A Week

Needless to say, this past week has been the hardest week of my life.

*DISCLAIMER* I am not complaining, this is just how my life is on a daily basis.

I think we all can agree that technology is our best friend. They are always there to pick us up when we've hit a low. When you're having a bad day, you can always rely on your laptop to entertain you with cute otter videos or video chat with your bestie from back home. We have become so dependent on our devices that we don't know what to do when the unthinkable happens- or in my case, liquid damage and a swollen battery prevents me from using my Macbook. I love you Apple, but you are really making my life difficult right now. Here is everything that could possibly go wrong when your Macbook is out for repairs. (My life last week)

1. The Genius Bar appointment.

It was going perfectly! The extremely friendly Apple employee told me that they would be able to fix the swollen battery free of charge within three to four business days. No problem there right? Wrong.

2. The Phone Call

"We found liquid damage and the cost to repair will be $755." Screw that.

3. *Cancels Repair*

After a couple hours of crying and a phone call with Mom, we decide to go ahead with the repairs.

4. The call back

At this point, I realized that I am a full time college student and I need a working computer. It is now midweek and I still don't have a computer. Repairs will take three to four more business days.

5. Homework

English: Four page paper due next week (Assigned the week before hand), Fiction test and paper due in two minutes

Typography: 8 page book on the history of the two typefaces Didot and Bodoni. Due in 30 seconds

Communications in 21st Century: Can't complain.

Digital Video Productions: PSA video. Due tomorrow

Technology in Society:I don't even have the time to type everything out.

*Procrastination is the issue here.*

6. Sleepless nights in the computer labs

I live off campus but it feel like I am a freshman again. I really considered moving my bed into the MacLab in the design building. I practically live here now. I miss doing my homework in my PJs in the comfort of my own bed.

7. EIC of the Becker College Odyssey community

Articles must be edited and articles must be written (including this one) This is something that I am extremely proud of but have been slacking on this week. Thank goodness that I have the best Contributing Editor in the world to help me out.

It is currently Monday October 10th. It has been eight days since I took my Macbook to the Apple Store. Still nothing back about when it will be fixed. I am tired, frustrated, stressed out beyond belief, overwhelmed and a little hungry to be honest. All I want is to fall asleep while watching Netflix before I go to bed and Casey Neistat vlogs.

If you go to Becker College and see me around campus, please be nice to me. Its been a long week.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
