Being a member of a team is probably one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. Your teammates are there through the good and the bad, the wins and the losses, and they're the ones who will cheer you up when you're down. As a freshman, I know I was worried about whether or not I would make any friends on the team, and even if I was good enough to make the team.
The thing I've found in my short two semesters on the dance team is that being a part of a team is like having a second family. Your teammates probably see more of you than your actual college friends do. It's just how it works out with practices, performances or games, and team dinners. Here are some ways you know that your team is not just family, but some of your best friends.
1. Getting dinner before or after practice becomes a thing.
No need to wonder who you're getting dinner with on practice days, informal team dinners are always a thing. You couldn't imagine getting dinner with anyone else on those days!
2. You're not afraid to embarrass each other.
Whether it be yelling someone's name across the quad or yelling out of a car window at one of your teammates, there is no limit with them! You completely and utterly embarrass yourself in front of each other and you have no cares in the world!
3. You know their allergies.
Browsing the options at the STU, you always know what to recommend to eat because you know they're allergic to peanut butter and pineapples!
4. If you need someone to talk to, they're always going to be there for you no matter what.
Think about those random, deep 12 a.m. conversations about life that you never see coming. Those conversations are some of the best you'll ever have because they bring you closer and connect you on a completely different level than normal.
5. They know you well enough to tell when you're upset.
They spend so much time with you that they know how you feel by simply observing your facial expressions and your body language. Whether it be the simple fact that you rub your hands together when you're anxious or you're quiet when you're upset, your team knows something wrong, and they'll do anything to help you out.
6. If you're upset, they know just what you need.
Whether it be a hug, a joke, or even to scream your favorite song at the top of your lungs, your team knows what will make you feel better and they'll do anything to make you smile again.
7. Your room is their room and vice versa.
You spend enough time in their room it's basically part yours anyways. It goes both ways because they feel just as at home in your room as well!
Being a part of a team is so rewarding because you get to meet all of these amazing people who become some of your best friends. I love my team because they know every side of me and they still love me for it. I couldn't imagine my best friends being anyone else.
