On May 6th, the Marvel cinematic universe could change dramatically. The release of Civil War will plot two of the most beloved Avengers characters against each other. Iron Man and Captain America find differences in each other's beliefs, especially regarding government involvement in the activities of superheroes. So, whose side will you fall on? The answer may be pretty simple to find if you know who you'll be casting a ballot for come this November.
Team Cap'
If you typically lean towards conservative beliefs, you'll probably find common ground with Mr. Stars and Stripes. As far as we can tell from the movie's brief synopsis, Captain America and co. politely decline to submit themselves to SHIELD monitoring and authority. On a political spectrum, this is pretty similar to a conservative desire for little government involvement in daily life. If you have found yourself complaining about NSA surveillance, government conspiracies, or the belittling of states rights, I'm willing to bet that you'd be inclined to agree with the Cap'. Besides, who wouldn't love a team with a guy named Bucky?
Team Iron Man
On the other side of the discussion is Team Iron Man. In this case, the self proclaimed "Genius, billionaire, Playboy, philanthropist" will likely garner a large number of liberal supporters. Tony Stark stands firm in his faith of the system, and encourages his Super-peers to remain faithful to SHIELD. In support of the government agency, Stark takes issue with what he views as the "loose-cannon" mentality of Captain America. Regardless of whether or not you agree with Iron Man on a political basis, I think we can all admit we have a deep love for the egotistical metal man.
Like everything in life, these are not absolute truths. Although, I myself am a more moderate conservative, and have found myself in deep support of the Cap'. So when you head into the theater this May, don't be surprised if you're challenged politically, and leave debating with that Bernie or Trump supporter from the aisle below you.
