A GOP bill was passed to the Ohio house that requires teachers to report to a child's parent if they show signs that they might be transgender. Cincinnati.com reports the House Bill 658 requires any government "agent" to report if a child is showing signs if they desire to be treated as the opposite gender.
What happened to telling children to be themselves? Their actions are based on who they are. Why should teachers be required to "out" a child if they aren't ready to come out? A teacher's job is to teach and inspire children. This legislation is trying to make teachers the spies so they can gossip about them to their parents.
There is nothing wrong if a child is transgender. There's nothing wrong if a child is gay. There's nothing wrong if a child is apart of the LGBTQ+ community.
If a child were showing signs of desiring to be the opposite gender and a teacher told the parents, what would happen if the parents were religious? What if they insisted the child go to conversion therapy or go to a religious therapist to see their point of view? They might tell the child, "It is wrong," or, "It's not what God would have wanted for you." It's always about religion with people, isn't it? What about what the child wants?
Does it not matter about the child's desire?
If a teacher told the parents, then the child might feel betrayed and wouldn't trust an authoritative figure again. At least for awhile.
Teachers are there to inspire kids, not to meddle in their lives. People should just make others feel safe. No matter what their decision is. There are more important things in life we should all discuss instead, we are fixated on a person's gender identity and sexuality.
