I would like to begin by saying, I in no way am a music critic or a deep person. In fact I would describe myself as a confused person. So this should more or less explain how this came about. Recently, I discovered how great of a song "Out of the Woods" by Taylor Swift is. Now when I like a song, I listen to it 100,000 times in a row until I then hate the song. So in a few days, this article will no longer be relevant, but for the time being here we go.
Alright so to start, let me again say I have very little clue what I am talking about and have done very little research, but who really does research this stuff anyway. Enough about my lack of knowledge, time to interpret! My first issue is: are the woods actually woods. Well dang I hope not! Why was Taylor in the woods with a guy all alone, and why doesn't she know if she is out of them, the answer to her question would be fairly obvious!
Next up: The monsters turned out to be just trees. I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea what this could possibly mean. What monsters? What trees? Other than the recurring theme of woods, the whole trees thing comes out of no where. On the other hand, this is the first mention of any monsters. This is clearly a metaphor, and I understand that, but what in the world is going on.
Now what I really came here to talk about, the line that talks about hitting the brakes too soon and ending up in the hospital room. This has caused my head to spin for quite a while now. Were Taylor and her boyfriend driving and he hit the brakes too soon and subsequently got rear ended by another car causing them to wind up in a hospital room? If so woah, thats deep and surprisingly not symbolic. The other way I interpret the line is that clearly her boyfriend ended things too soon even though the relationship had clearly not reached it's full potential leaving one of them mad. If this is the case why did one of them end up in the hospital in stitches? Did one of them hurt the other? If so this would make sense but at the same time is very unlikely and must not be taken lightly. Honestly, there is no other explanation for this, so I'm deciding to leave that interpretation up to whoever feels compelled to read this article. Mad respect for those who do read this.
In conclusion, what the heck?
In actual conclusion, I hope all of you learned something after reading this.
In actual actual conclusion, I hope all of you read this.
In actual actual actual conclusion: this song is really good, this song really does not make a whole lot of sense to me, this song clearly contains one huge metaphor that I am too lazy understand. If you hate this song, and hate me. That's dope.
