Day by day, cancellation by cancellation, we come to grips with just how serious and disruptive the coronavirus (COVID-19) is becoming.
If being in your apartment day after day isn't enough of a reminder, the list of things that is being postponed or canceled due to the virus is simply unprecedented.
The NBA postponed its season. The NHL postponed its season. The MLB postponed a season that hadn't even started yet. Rumors are these leagues won't even begin to think about restarting until June or July. Some think they'll be canceled completely.
I started thinking about big events coming up that haven't been officially postponed or canceled yet, but that probably will be. And as a diehard Taylor Swift fan, her upcoming "Lover" tour this summer came to mind.
I would be shocked if Taylor Swift's "Lover" tour is not postponed or canceled.
The tour is supposed to begin on June 20 in Belgium, and then tour through Europe, then Brazil and then close in the US with shows in Los Angeles and Massachusetts through the beginning of August.
Since it's a relatively small tour for Taylor compared to some of her past tours, maybe it's possible they all get pushed back a month or two. Or maybe the fallout of everyone rescheduling events due to coronavirus will simply be too much to deal with and it will be canceled completely.
Swift has already taken to her social media to urge her fans to take coronavirus seriously:
"I love you so much and need to express my concern that things aren't being taken seriously enough right now," Swift wrote on her Instagram story. "I'm seeing lots of get-togethers and hangs and parties still happening. This is the time to cancel plans, actually truly isolate as much as you can and don't assume that because you don't feel sick that you aren't possibly passing something on to someone elderly or vulnerable to this. It's a really scary time, but we need to make sacrifices right now."
This is all speculation, but if you have tickets for Taylor Swift's "Lover" tour, it's time to consider the possibility of a very cruel summer.
