I have got a good friend that I meet with every week for lunch during the school year. There is something about sitting down and sharing a meal that brings people closer together; it’s good to see him amidst the hectic schedules that come with school.
As a general rule, we attempt to try something new every week, though we have a few favorites that keep drawing us to their tables. Here’s a short list and descriptions of a few places that I would highly recommend.
McFarland and Sons: McFarland’s is probably my favorite place to eat in Lincoln. Styled after a traditional Irish pub, the fantastic atmosphere adds to the experience of eating here. Meat and potatoes make up the majority of my favorite dishes and you can’t go wrong with meat and potatoes. Be sure to try the fantastic soda bread! McFarland and Son’s comes with my highest recommendation.
Dempsey’s: Another place to eat that draws inspiration from an Irish pub, Dempsey’s may have the best burgers in town. If I want a hamburger, this is where I want to get it. Do not leave without getting the truffle fries on the side. There is a large assortment of different burgers offered; I’ve had the best luck inquiring of the staff which ones are their favorites and giving them a try.
The Parthenon: Enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean and head to the Parthenon. If you’re up for trying something new, I’d recommend giving this establishment a try. Leave room for dessert after you eat because the baklava is wonderful. Greek decorations leave interesting avenues for conversation and you can buy a large number of their desserts to take home with you.
Toast: One item I always order if it is on the menu, is a Reuben sandwich. I like to think that I use this as a bellwether for the tastiness of the other food on the menu. Now let me tell you, Toast serves the best Reuben sandwich I have ever had the pleasure of eating. They also have a great selection of hamburgers (aside from the Vegetarian, I’ve tried them all) and other sandwiches. Sunday breakfast is also incredibly tasty.
Vincenzo’s: A list of places to eat would not be complete without Italian food. We stopped for here for a late lunch, had wonderful service, a delicious and a filling meal all for about the price you’d pay at Arby’s. I was incredibly impressed by the value of eating here; I cannot speak to their supper prices but lunch was fantastic. Classic Italian food, you cannot go wrong here, another one I highly recommend! I firmly believe that you and your friends will very much enjoy any of the above choices. Perhaps I’ll see you there this weekend. Gather together and share great food and conversation.
