Let's review 2015! Taking A Look Back At My Favorite Year

What a year it has been! At the start of each year people develop a long list of things that they would like to accomplish for the year ahead. People also look at a new year as a fresh start. In general, it appears that the years go by as fast as they come in. Join me as I take a look back at one of the best years of my life.

2015 was a year of firsts. This year many things transpired that I would have never imagined. I turned 18 years old towards the very end of 2015. Turning 18 meant one thing: I was finally a legal adult. For the days leading up to my 18th birthday I was filled with worry, thinking about how I needed to conduct myself in more of an adult manner considering that my 18th year was on its way. However, although I worried leading up to it, it is without doubt that my 18th birthday was one of my best birthdays to date.

2015 was also my graduation year. Since my first day of my freshman year of high school I could not wait to become a senior! Seniors seemed to be filled with so much knowledge and I also secretly envied them as they moved onto college, which I thought of as the most eventful chapter in one's life. It was during my senior year of high school that I formed the tightest bonds with some of the most amazing people who I know I will remain friends with for a lifetime. At graduation, when the announcer called my name, a feeling of glee came over my body because I knew that my time to move on to the next chapter of my life had finally come.

It was in my government class during senior year that I developed my deep burning passion for all thing politics! When my government teacher would bring up what was going on in the world of politics, many colorful thoughts would go through my mind. it was then that I knew that I had found the love of my life! That June my friend and I went to our first rally on Roosevelt Island to hear Hillary Clinton speak. It was such an honor to attend such an iconic event.

One of my fondest moments of 2015 was when I was named a super fan of my all time favorite daytime talk show "The View." After spending nearly a decade watching the show with my grandmother, never in a million years did I ever think that I would appear on the show not once, but twice. I still remain in utter shock that a life-long dream of mine has finally come true.

By far the most profound moment of 2015 was packing my bags and heading off to college. Like most 18-year-olds who are leaving their home for the first time, I was unsure of what to expect as I began this new chapter in my life. As I pulled up to the place that I would spend the next four years, I was uncertain about what my first semester had in store for me. I can say that my first semester of college has been the best and most unforgettable four months of my entire life. In college I have had the pleasure of meeting people from all across the world and, while doing so, I have made great friends. They're such great friends, in fact, that I have often thought to myself, “How did I make it through nearly two decades of my life without you?” Most of all, I have discovered my love for writing. From a young age I have always had many thoughts flowing through my mind. Now I finally have the chance to write my thoughts down for others to read.

What a year this has been. Looking back, I am incredibly thankful for all of the lessons that I have learned this year. Aside from this year being a year of firsts, I have moved on to a very eventful chapter in my life. This year is almost on its way out, and it's passed by just as quickly as the year came in. Bring it on, 2016! I am ready for you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
