So this is weird, right? Because you get into a relationship with your boyfriend (after what feels like a century in the "talking" stage) and you are dying to know when/how/why you guys are going to spill that one phrase, "I love you."
Girls dramatically over analyze this one sentence because society has taught us through movies and magazines that once he says the L word, everything is perfect in the world...right? (No.)
Now don't get me wrong when my boyfriend and I dropped the L word it was honestly one of the best feelings ever hands down. I was sweating, shaking, and it felt like everything was now or never when it happened. Those are the moments you just want to experience forever.
Everything seems to fall into place...but what happens after that moment? The cute little things he says, the flirting, and the excitement turn into "Goodnight I love you" and "Have a good day I love you"...suddenly you forget what the L word even means?
So as an experiment, I asked my boyfriend to stop saying "I love you" for one week and replace the phrase with something else instead.
At first it really was just an attempt to make my boyfriend be cute to me everyday because we are currently long distance and he sucks at texting (struggle is real). However my experiment ended up showing me how lucky I am as a girlfriend because I now know what he means when he drops the L bomb.
So I thought I would write about it so my girls can pass this along to their man because it was pretty fun!
For the most part it was a joke because we would call each other foods, objects, or exaggerate our compliments towards each other. But once in awhile he would say things that I didn't realize he noticed or appreciated about me, it actually reminded me on why I said the L word in the first place!
Between us the L word means inside jokes, memories, trust, friendship, fun, and effort. I mean it was pretty cool of him to actually go along with it, instead of telling me I'm weird like most people would. That right there alone shows he always has my back.
Maybe I am just weird, but maybe that one phrase he says everyday actually means something different each time! Plus it never kills anyone to get a nice compliment about ourselves, am I right, ladies?
