Sweet Home Minnesota

There's no place like home.

Sweet Home Minnesota

Currently writing this article as I sit on my bed, which I didn’t have to use a ladder for. Guess where I am! I’m back home and oh how glorious it is to be back.

I’m not gonna lie that it would’ve been extremely fun to go somewhere warm or exotic for my spring break or go somewhere with my college buddies. Alas, like most college students, our tuitions and food eat up any money we had and honestly going home and basically doing nothing but rest seemed extremely attractive.

Anyways, this was my first time returning home from being at college. It’s been almost two months since I last was home. A lot can change in that time period. Physically I look the same and so does my home but you can feel things are different. I’m older and had more life experiences. Yet at the same time it’s like no time had passed and I was just heading back home after a long day at my high school.

Of course there were new items at home that I didn’t know like new bed covers but it was great to see that some things didn’t change like my bed was basically how I left it despite my papa joking with me before I came home that my bed was gone. When my family gathered for a late dinner, conversation flowed as fluidly as before. The classic banter arose and we laughed at the familiarity of the situation. Sleeping on a bed I didn’t have to climb to and being able to stretch my legs with no consequences was refreshing. Waking up to warm breakfast instead of dorm room microwaved oatmeal, my 8 am go to, was a blessing.

It’s weird walking down the hall and knowing I can’t barge into a college buddies room to just talk. It’s weird not having to grab my idea just to get into my house. It’s weird having a constant strong wifi connection. These are all good weirds.

It’s nice to know that despite how long you’ve been away, home will always be home. It always feel like it regardless of the physical changes and your own internal growth. It’s good to be back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
